“Enjoyable stay”

Fisher's Hotel

6 Jun 2008

Feared the worst after reading the reviews, but found the hotel quite satisfactory. The bedroom, bathroom and bed linen were spotless, and the bed comfortable. Food not Cordon Bleu, but more than adequate. Saw no threadbare carpets likely to trip you up. The hotel was still undergoing refurbishment, but this did not affect us at all.

“Great”

Fisher's Hotel

Having read the reviews prior to arriving, we were extremely sceptical, but decided to go and make the most of our night away. On arrival, the hotel does have scaffolding, however surely this suggests work, and should not be a criticism! We recently stayed in a 5*hotel in Edinburgh, which too had building works going on....get over it now!

We were checked into our room, which on entry was named "Caledonian Room". This room was large and spacious, and extremely clean. The decor could do with an upgrade, and it is apparent that the hotel are working towards this, as our bathroom was a brand new suite - delightful! Further to this, the room has a full sized fridge (which is not stocked with extortionate hotel drinks) allowing you to buy some wine/juice and have this in here.

One draw back was the heating in the room. It is run on one small heater, which does not heat the whole room, so take your thermals!

breakfast the following morning was nice, a self service to the continental with staff bringing out the full Scottish. All staff from arrival to finish were pleasant and friendly.

I would recommend this hotel for a weekend break, ok it's not the Ritz, but a pleasant little hotel striving to modernise in a beautiful part of Scotland

Thank you for your comments on room 122 The Caledonian Room. I note the point ref the heater and this will be rectified. I was pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again once all the work is finished

booked through thomas cook for my partners birthday, arrived to find the hotel shabby, dirty, staff did not care, rooms were really dirty, bed was not made and had no sheet, bathroom mouldy and dirty.l Asked of money back took them a while to arrange then we got transfered to their sister hotel the scotlands because they were apparently getting place refurbished. Why would a travel agent send clients there i have no idea. Was ment to be a 3* but more like a 1/2* they must have got their 3* years and years ago please avoid even if you have no where to stay (stay in the car its cleaner). We complained to superbreak who then said it was our fault haha

“The Fishers Lament”

Fisher's Hotel

3 Feb 2008

We stayed at The Fishers Hotel on a twixmas 3 night break. We paid at reception prior to seeing the room. First mistake!
We exited the lift on the first floor to be met by threadbare scotch tartan carpet which meandered like a drunken man. I knew what to expect behind the door of room 122 and i was not dissapointed. We opened the door to find we were actually walking uphill. The floor slopes by around six inches, consequently the bed has blocks at the headboard end to keep it level. The wardrobe and furniture were all cut to suit the slope. There was a step into the bathroom we constantly tripped on.
The light switch came off in my partners hand.
The basin was cracked, the jacuuzi bath did not work.
This room was heated by a one killowatt heater, it was useless.
On the second day we both fell ill with diahorrea, which we can only presume was caused by eating there.
We never got to see the area as we were both ill in bed and i had to get medicine from the pharmacy across the road.

Arrived at Fishers Hotel in the evening after travelling down through the Cairngorms for one nights stay. Nice location in the centre of Pitlochry. The girl on reception was friendly enough and booked dinner in the hotel for us. Going up to our room - 214 - in the lift, we were immediately struck by the threadbare carpets in the hotel and chipped paintwork almost everywhere. We opened the door to the room which was roomy enough with lovely views to the garden and hills beyond. However, it was the shabbiest room we have ever stayed in. The paintwork was chipped and there were marks on the walls. The bathroom was tiny with cracked tiles on the floor, shower fixture was loose and the toilet wasn't bolted down properly!! . If it hadn't been so late and also the fact that we were only staying one night, we would have refused the room. Dinner in the restaurant was ok with eager staff who were so keen they whipped your plates away while you were still eating the last mouthful! Breakfast next morning was ok-ish, but have had better presented food. I know we had not paid top price for this hotel, but for a 3* you do expect much better. We would not return to this hotel.
