Having read the reviews on trip advisor and visited the Loch Tummel Inn website I was more than a little disappointed when I arrived at Loch Tummel Inn. If it were not for the big sign above the door I might have believed that I had turned up at the wrong place altogether.
It is easy to see that this could be the 'magical little scottish country inn' it is described as and it probably once was. However, I do not believe that to be a fitting description of the Loch Tummel Inn I visited.
On arriving our first impression was that the building itself was not being maintained and was desperately in need of some TLC. This impression was reinforced when shown to our room (no. 4) which was best described as 'grubby'. The wallpaper peeling down the walls to reveal the underlying mould is not a good look. Our room was cold, the duvet wafer thin, the pillows lumpy, the decor not so much traditional as just outdated. On the upside - the bathroom was newly refurbished and the shower was great!
The other big issue at this place is the staffing level. With one person in the kitchen and one person at the bar (who also had to show us to our room in between serving dinners) the wait for food was at least an hour. The barman had to make many apologies to expectant diners during the evening. Again, on the upside - a combination of good food and good staff won over most of the diners.
Be aware, that although the website advertises a restaurant this was not open during our stay and food was only served in the bar until 8pm when we visited not 9pm as advertised.
Under the current ownership I won't be revisiting and I won't be recommending.
