Reading a couple of the other reviews, i can't help but wonder if we're talking about the same place.
If you are looking for a contemporary, anonymous-style hotel, then maybe picking an "inn" in such a charming town as Pitlochry isn't the smartest choice anyway!
A major part of the appeal of the place is that it DOES retain a lot of the old "quaintness", but in no way does this detract from the overall high standerds.
I find the hotel an absolute pleasure to stay in - a lobly combination of character, comfort and cleanliness. The staff, too, provide the perfect balance between friendly and professional.
I would go so far as to say the place has become a "home from home" .... with no pressures and better cooking!
The only fault i could find was that a friend's room could have done with a lick of paint, but this certainly was nothing to spoil their holiday. For myself, i couldn't fault my room.
The bar is lovely, too, and perfect to relax in, whether on a weekend's escape, or simply after a day's walking (the Moulin is a perfect, central base for that type of holiday).
I agree the main menu doesn't seem to change very often, but unless you're eating there a couple of times a week, every week, personally i can,t see that being a problem, as the large selection is both varied and interesting, whether a full-on meat eater, or vegetarian, and they all seemed to be done to an excellent standard.
The same can be said for meals in the hotel dining room itself, where the choice is even more extensive, and absolutely perfect, either for a special occassion, or just a quiet treat.
I returned 2 weeks ago from my 2nd stay at the Moulin Inn, and have already booked to go back the same time next year.
