My new husband and I were booked in at the Atholl Palace Hotel for 5 nights for our honeymoon. We stayed there for the first night and were so disappointed. Whilst on a day trip to the Edradour distillery, we happened to stumble across this unassuming pub and stopped for a pint of ale. We were both sitting outside in the sun and we agreed that we didn't want to go back to the palace. Out of interest we asked a member of staff if there were any vacancies and the girl behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful. She showed us a room and the menu and a price list and for almost half the price of the atholl palace, we opted to move. It turned out to be the best decision we have ever made!
Although the hotel rooms were small and the corridors are a little narrow, just remember that the building is over 300 years old. We ended up staying in 3 different rooms (out of choice, not because they made us move) and each was lovely and had it's own character. Yes, as previous reviews say, the rooms are a little small, but it's somewhere to sleep after our lovely days out. We both felt that our rooms were cosy. For a country hotel you couldn't ask for anything more.
Staff were nothing but helpful. Every single staff member was helpful and interested in us. We felt that nothing was too much for them to do for us. Polite and courteous at all times and extremely friendly.
The food. Where do I start? Every single mouthful we ate tasted divine. Nothing was reheated, kept on a hot plate or reconstituted. Always freshly cooked and bursting with flavour. Vegetables changed each day and were not frozen. Fillet steak was perfect. Breakfast was cooked fresh when you ordered it with freshly ground coffee and a good choice of cereals.
In short, our honeymoon could have been a complete disaster had we continued with our stay at the Atholl Palace. But thanks to everybody at the Moulin Inn and the beautiful scenery, our honeymoon was everything we could have wished for. We are already planning our anniversary trip here!
