We stay at Lodges on Kinnaird Estate every year and always go for a long walk then off to the Moulin for lunch and a few drinks! Well after the "delightful" welcome we recieved from the lovely barmaid at The Moulin we left! She is definately in the wrong job!

The East Haigh Hotel has recently has a major makeover and attention to detail is 1st class.

Sophie, daughter of the owners is the most charming and delightful young woman I have met in a long time! I want some of what she eats in the morning!!

bar food is great quality, possibly a bit more expensive that others but the qualitu of everything from crockery, linen, food and service is worth that extra few £££s.

Sophie showed us a few rooms which looked great and plan to visit in the near future.

Booked in for the New Years Eve package, our very first 3 day stay at this beautiful location got off to an excellent start with a warm welcome and champaign and chocolate reception. Our four poster room, at £595 per person was a little small for the price but clean and cosy and you got the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble for them- from ironing your outfits for the big night or making sure you got to Pitlochry safely on New Years Day for the street party.
However, a few things occurred that spoiled our memory of the experience;
- Throughout or stay, our bathroom towels were not renewed
- On the last evening, Chef Neil dropped his carving knife on the floor then looking round to see if it had been spotted, quickly wiped it on his apron and carried on using it to carve. This gave us some concern about how hygiene standards were being implemented in private in the kitchen.
- On the last evening of our stay, while the hotel was still full with guests, Neil and Lesley had some visiters over. Daughter Sophie was tasked with looking after them away from the guests while others took care of the service to us. Lesley, who was flitting between her visiters and us, got orders wrong and generally left guests - even those who were obviously regulars -feeling quality of service to us paying guests was no longer important.
- A 10% service charge of over £100 was added to an already large bill . We considered this should have been discretionary.
- Also on that final evening, myself and my partner asked for our bill as we had to leave at 7 am the following morning to get our flight. We had approached a member of staff, who we had not met until that evening. She then had to steal Lesley away from her visiters - something she didnt look too pleased about - to sort the bill. Lesley then tasked her staff to present us with the bill and take payment. Even though we were in full view of her, at no point did Lesley approach us to see if we had enjoyed our stay or make any comment to us, she just hurried back to her friends as quickly as she could, leaving a stranger to bid us farewell. Assuming that we may get a courtesy call later or following our visit, we were not too worried. However that contact has never been made.

Do more research and find a place that is not so expensive and even more pleasing.

Don't get me wrong, the food was great, the service was outstanding but when we got our bill, well, that wasn't so delightful. Everything was very expensive. I choose the room with the fire place (since it was a special occasion). It looked better in the pictures and it was a bit small, over the kitchen and had a view of the highway (carriage way). I was expecting picturesque countryside (none to be had).

The most disappointing: It was a fishing trip for my husband so we hired a ghillie (guide). The guide did not do his homework to find the best fishing. It had rained the previous days and his usual spot was very cloudy and muddy. He took us there anyway. I drove up the road a few miles and found perfect, blue, clear rivers. The ghillie didn't even bother to look for better fishing holes. I felt so bad for wasting my husbands' time and money. AND he stuck us for his bar bill at the end of the day.

“Same view as Mr Duncan”

East Haugh House

My wife and I stayed there for just one evening in second week of June and have the same views as Mr Duncan - perhaps over same week.
The room was nicely decorated (with 4 poster), very clean but with a couple of minor hiccups - shower if too high pressure causes water to go over edge and leak downstairs and little TV is a bit ugly. Location - a little out of town if you want to wander down the high street but only 4 minutes by car.
Best qualities were, however, the food and the service. Dinner was superb with a nicely varied choice of local food - I had a wonderful roe deer dish, as were breakfasts. We had great service from 3 young ladies - 2 being the daughters of the owners, one up from Edinburgh for the weekend to help out. If you have dogs this is great place as well with the owners being relaxed about animals.
I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone, especially for a short break and even for just a splash out dinner/breakfast for those living in Edinburgh. We had a look at the nearby Atholl Palace which while wonderfully impressive grounds and building had very tired rooms (and smelly) compared to East Haugh.

“An absolute delight”

My wife and I have just spent the most superb weekend at the East Haugh House Hotel. I can't recommend it enough. The food was absolutely superb, making use of lots of local produce which was prepared and presented to the highest standards. Due to a slight mix up over our booking we spent one night in a room with a four poster bed and jacuzzi bath and one in a slighty less expensive room and we'd definately say that it's worth paying the upgrade. The welcome we received was second to none and the staff could not have been more attentive during our stay. If you haven't been, go. If you have, go back, go on you deserve it !!
