Me and my girlfriend stayed here along with about 40 others for a wedding taking place at Blair Castle in December 07.
The hotel is an old place but well kept and traditionally Scottish. There is an open log and coal fire (one of several in the hotel) in reception where you can instantly warm and a bar about 20 yards from the fire, when coming in from the cold outside, its was brilliant.
The room we stayed in, I think it was 305 on the top floor, was quite cosy, it was the only one in the hotel with a small balcony. From the balcony you can see the castle and its grounds.
The bed was reasonably comfy and the shower/bath was adequate. The room had a small TV so you could watch Match Of The Day.
We stayed B&B, the breakfast were full Scottish (basically a copy off us English) or you could choose what you wanted and they would cook it for you, I went for porridge followed bacon sausage and eggs on a daily basis. There was always plenty of toast and as much tea/coffee/fresh juice as you could drink.
There isn’t much in the village of Pitlochry, so we ate at the hotel every night. The food was nice, there is quite a lot of choice on the menu though the food is quite plain. I had fish one night and steak the next, it was yummy.
The wedding was made special by the hotel staff, it was like a fairy tail wedding with having the ceremony at the castle then returning to the hotel for the wedding breakfast and dance with traditional Scottish band. All the staff went out of their way with anything that was asked for throughout the stay.
If staying up north again I would return to this place, especially as it is a pet friendly hotel. I would recommend anything thinking of doing traditional Scotland to visit here, it has everything you need.
