“You won't get what you bargained for, use the Travel Lodge up the road”

Muirhouse Lodge Country Hotel

Like most other customers of this hotel, we booked a room for a one night stay prior to our flight from Prestwick Airport early the next day.

The website gave the impression that all accommodation was in the hotel but when we arrived we were told that we were booked into the Manor Park, a sister hotel across the road.

When we got to the Manor Park we were told that it was full and we would be staying in the Old Course Hotel in Prestwick. However, we were told that we had to leave our car at Manor Park becasue the Old Course wasn't part of the same hotel group.

By the time we got to the Old Course the restaurant had closed and no food was available.

We found out that our experience was fairly typical and we were the second family to be moved around that evening.

The man on reception at Manor Park was pleasant and smiled thoughout the time that he gave us the bad news.

We felt conned by the website and we didn't get the service that we paid for.

Take my advice, use the Travel Lodge up the road.

“Beware - Incorrect Commercial Practice”

Muirhouse Lodge Country Hotel

2 Oct 2006

I made a booking in Muirhouse Lodge by telephone. On arrival, we were informed that rooms were not available, and we were booked into another hotel 30 minutes drive away. As this did not suit us, we refused the booking and went elsewhere. However, when I received my American Express statement, I discovered not only that my account had been debited, but that the date of the debit was ONE WEEK BEFORE our intended stay at the Lodge. Although I tried to contact Mr McKnight by telephone numerous times, he was never available, and did not return my calls.

“Bait and switch”

Beware of this hotel's website pricing.
I booked this hotel in Feb 2006 for Aug 2006 - 2 family rooms at @ £85 and 1 double room at £70 (total £240). At this time I was not informed that any prepayment would be required. Further there was nothing on the web site to indicate this. In July my visa was charged the equivalent of £274.08.
I made 5 transatlantic phone calls and eventually was assured that my visa would be refunded and I would be charged the booked price. At this time we left on our trip.
Arriving in Prestwick we were informed that our rooms were "unavailable" but we were accomodated at another of their hotels. The different site was acceptable but when I checked on payment I discovered that my visa had not been credited and I was being charged the higher rate, Further I was unable to obtain a detailed invoice for the charges.
I spoke to the hotel representative and was again assured that a refund would be made. Needless to say it never was and after repeated attempts I have been told that I paid the right amount and that included in that was a 2.8% charge for the privledge of using my visa card.

I want to warn others about what in my opinion is a bait and switch scam.

We booked a room at the Muirhouse Lodge Hotel for a one night stay prior to our flight from Prestwick Airport early the next day.

The website gave the impression that all accommodation is in Muirhouse Lodge but when we arrived we were told that we were booked into the sister hotel across the road.
This hotel was very delapidated from the outside and there seemed to be extensive building work going on in the vicinity. No food was available on the premises. The chap on reception was pleasant enough and the family room we were given was a decent size but there was no shower in the bathroom (just a hole in the wall where I presume a shower fitting was going to be installed). There was a massive corner bath which seemed out of place. The building itself needs a good clean and some money spent on it to upgrade it to an acceptable level.
We were told the hotel is full every night which must be because free parking and airport transfers are available as otherwise I cannot imagine that anyone would choose to stay there with the building in its present state.
Because we had an early flight a basic breakfast of tea/coffee/toast/cereal etc. was available.
My main complaint is the misleading impression given by the website with no clear information that most of the accommodation appears to be in the Muirhouse Lodge's sister hotel.

we booked this hotel on the net and it said to put in your credit card details but payment would not be taken off it as you pay at the hotel on arrival.i looked at my bank details a few days later and there was £72 taken out from manor park hotel, i was a bit miffed about this as i thought i booked with muirhouse lodge and i also wondered why the money had been taken out my account.i called the manager and he said this happened because the website had not been updated about payment being taken immediately and muirhouse and manor were sister hotels.he said he would upgrade us to the honeymoonsuite.when we got there it wasnt exactly the honeymmoon suite more like a family room but it was nice, although the picture on the tv was very poor and it didnt have a phone and we wanted a wake up call as we had an early flight the next day, it wasnt a problem though as we asked at reception if they could give us a chap on the door, well this did not happen and its just as well we had a mobile phone which we had set the alarm.the price of the room states full cooked breakfast and transfers to and from the airport included, we had tea and toast and cereal which was fair enough as we were leaving early, but when i got home to my surprise another £6 had been taken out my bank account from muirhouse. i called and spoke to two duty managers who said they would call me back and didnt, i called them back and was eventually told it was probably the airport transfer charge.WHICH SAID ON THE HOTEL WEBSITE WAS FREE! i have given up calling them back, but i will never use this hotel again.
