I booked a mid-range family room on an internet hotel booking site. Upon arrival we had no welcome at Reception whatsoever, we were made to feel that we were in some way 2nd class. We were sent to room 301 which was shabby and outdated, this room type is in contrast to the modern room I believed I had booked which was represented in pictures on-line for my wife and 5 year old daughter. I contacted Reception who argued that we had booked a standard twin room and offered an upgrade for Euro 20 a night. I tried to explain that my reservation printout clearly showed that I had booked a Family Room but I was dismissed out of hand. Please don't think I am a cheapscate who booked a budget package, my two nights cost me more than our recent stay at a marriot in Dublin. I felt that we were being treated by Reception as not priority guests because we had used an internet hotel booking site.
There is a silver lining to this story as the de-luxe room was just what we had expected in the first place, allbeit at an extra Euro 40! We enjoyed our stay here but did not spend our Euro's on the Hotel premises, my Birthday meet-up with friends in Suttons was switched to an Italian Restaurant in Cork City, and on point of issue we did not frequent the bars or use the spa treatments etc as we felt that the 'upgrade' charge was not justified. I did send my little 5 year old to the Kids Club at 5.30pm until 9.45pm and we were amazed that the hotel charge was only 8 Euro, my daughter had dinner included in this price and she loved the 'Kids Club' experience. 5 Stars. In conclusion Rochestown Park Hotel offer a first rate 5 Stars hotel experience once you are safely in your de-luxe room far from Reception. The breakfast was fab, and the maitre'd on the Saturday morning was superb and ran a flawless operation. Room Service ensured that we had sufficient for the 3 of us without any need to tell them about our 5 year old, and the room was well serviced. The Swimming pool complex is a must to visit and we were most impressed with the high standards. Shame we will be looking for other hotels in the area in future because of the way the receptionist handled our arrival. We are a mixed race family and we were made very welcome by the vast majority of staff and felt very much at home at the Rochestown Park Hotel.
