“Very positive, great food, but "do not disturb" means do not disturb!”

Jurys Hotel Cork

9 Jul 2008

I stayed for one night in June 2008. Its a very nice, modern, sleek hotel with good parking underground. The reception staff were quick, efficient, helpful and friendly. My room was on the fourth floor and therefore I had good views from the landing as the walls are glass, with great big comfy chairs to crash in and take in the view!

Room had all mod cons, I faced the back of the building so it was quiet (but more on that later). Windows only opened a crack but aircon was good. Shower powerful and big (walk in rather than bath) and the TV had a good selection of movies. Free internet as well.

As the hotel is a little outside the city centre (like two blocks or so) I didn't bother venturing out as I hadn't researched good places to eat. And I'm glad I did as the food in the restaurant was fantastic! It wasn't that busy so it was served quickly and the waitress was (a little overly) attentive and brought me what I needed.

There's also a nice outside decking area by the river with tables etc where you can sit with a drink.

The bed was fine, OK night's sleep, however I was woken about 8am by a truck outside emptying bottles into a crate. I don't see why these jobs have to be done early in the morning when people are likely to be lying in - its a hotel for goodness sake! Do it in the afternoon or evening when people aren't in!

That aside I had no quibbles. Breakfast was OK, scrambled eggs were not good but everything else OK. Check out process was quick.

One problem which I've seen here before, which I also experienced, was the cleaning staff entering the room. I had the "do not disturb" sign on the door, but when I was packing up two knocks came and the door opened! I raised the issue at check out and they said they would bring it to the duty manager's attention. They really must get this fixed as there's more than one review here that mentions it, and I experienced it too, probably the most recent person to do so.

It didn't spoil my stay but took away from it being perfect.

“Very good all round”

Jurys Hotel Cork

14 Jun 2008

Stayed for just one night this week. Friendly and efficient check in, even though our rooms werent ready at midday (2pm check in). Large room with two king beds, good shower (although water temp hard to get right) and bath. Internet via TV (costs €5 for 24 hours) didnt work properly. However they came to the room and tried to sort it and ended up not charging us for it (although at checkout time it appeared on the bill). The business centre is an excellent facility - not sure if it is available to all guests.

Nice touches like glossy/up to date magasines in the room, a free morning paper delivered in addition to a free 3 minute national call per stay.

The whole hotel was spotlessly clean and very bright due to so much glass on the exterior.

Breakfast was good quality but lacking a little in variety. I also experienced the waiting waiting waiting for coffee and tea to arrive.

All the staff I encountered were friendly and professional. If there were more special offers available I would stay there every time I come to Cork.

“Let down my the little things that make a good stay a great stay”

Great rooms, location and facilities (e.g. spa).

Service not as bad as many reviews made out but there is still room for improvement. Not sure whether it is the staff themselves (who were always courteous to me) or the staffing levels when restaurant / bar are busy but manages to just miss the mark - for example fogetting to bring sauces after being asked or failing to bring breakfast tea/coffee...

As buffet breakfasts go passable but if you're after a high quality Irish breakfast cooked to order you're not going to get it here. Oh and the swipe access in the lifts can be fun...

We stayed at this hotel for the new year. We paid extra money for an executive room this allowed us the use of a lounge with extra facilitieis for making drinks and there was also cakes and pastries.
The hotel was centrally located and was of a good standard but the new years entertainment was most dissapointing. It was the same club men group alll over the new year. THe music was very dated. I feel that there should have been more varied entertainment and also a disco. This group club men catered for the over 60s style of music.
As it was new year cork was shut down with little going on in the town. But i enjoyed my short break there and i would like to go back to the south of Ireland.
