We stayed at the montenotte for St Paddy's weekend this year. We arrived at 2pm and fair dos our room was not ready, so we asked to leave our bags on a corner subsiquently blocking some fire doors. We asked where we could get lunch and pass the time and were given little advise. Cork is full of life and you couldn't ask for a better place except Dublin but half the price! We wandered back up the hill to the hotel in the rain to check in. The two girls on the desk were obviously new and that was no problem at all but the older lady who was supervising looked as though she had had her fill of training and took it out on us being sharp and offhand.
When we got into the room we were really pleased we had 2 double beds (perfect for girlie weekends), good tv and bathroom and it was very clean. I work for a major Hotel Brand so trust me if there is dirt, I can find it! We went out that night thinking, great we have a real bargain, after popping in to look at the health club facilities.
We got back that night and first discovered why so cheap. The noise outside our room was outragious, we unfortunatley had rooms that everyone else had to walk past. We didn't complain because we thought well its saturday night.
The next night was even worse, we called down to the reception several times but nothing was done and we complained the following morning again but nothing was done, not an explanation or an apology.
The last night was again horrendous with people shouting and screaming in the corridor at their friends. Bare it in mind we had had vertually no sleep for 3 nights so we all were on the edge!! Again Reception did nothing and in the end after hearing one man shout 'Barry are you there Barry' for 20 minutes at 4.00am, I went and got him a spare key myself!
To try and cheer us up we went for breakfast at 9 the next day but wished we hadn't bothered, the only joy was the much older lady who after I was told to wait by the buffet for my eggs by an other member of staff said'What did she tell you that for? Please sit down and I shall bring them to you.' If only all the staff were as attentive as she was maybe the stay would have being worth the sleepless nights!
I would not have posted this comment on but after reading the reviews before I thought we had a safe bet and if the managment had bothered to reply to my comment card I may have posted a good review.

“A great stay....”

Montenotte Hotel

We are just back from our stay at the Montenotte Hotel, Cork and can safely say we had a great time. We stayed in a family room ( 2 doubles) and was fine for the space we needed. The room was nicely decorated with a flat screen telly, although our bathroom was quite basic and plain in comparison to the bedroom, but this was not a problem. The reception area is lovely ( very boutique ) and the bar is nice and cosy, although it did lack a bit of "athmosphere". The views from the bar are lovely and staff are very pleasant. The hotel is situated on one of the many hills in Cork City, so walking down to the city is no problem ( a 10-15 minute stroll ) but walking it back up did bring a few groans and moans from my two daughters. Overall, our stay in the Montenotte was great and would definitely recommend to a friend.

“Great city break hotel”

Wanted a weekend break somewhere a bit different from the major European cities so went with a break in Cork

Arrived in a taxi with a very knowledgable and enthusiastic taxi driver for way past midnight

For around 12.40 am the hotel was still lively and the reception quick and efficient
Arrived at a spacious room with a modernised revamp and clean and warm which was well appreciated at such a late hr

Went down for breakfast on the Friday morning and was very impressed by the self service breakfast with a well cooked option which for self service was very tasty

As people have stated its not in a central Patrick St/Paul St location but the walk down to town is pleasant and around 15 minutes to the river and bus station and the main shopping and restaurant streets
Lots of restaurants and pubs to venture into (particularly La Baroque and Greenes)
However the downside of Cork is the fact that nearly all of the streets are covered in dog mess so watch your step

The hotel is about a 5-10 minute taxi ride away which comes to around 7-8 € which is worth paying for instead of the walk back up the hill

Did'nt eat an evening meal in the hotel due to the range of restaurants and bars in the city but what we did see being served looked sumptious and well presented

The hotel has a very large bar with a range of sofas and easy chairs and is based with a large open wall of glass looking from the hillside over the city (however at night the three tables by the window are lit by very harsh lights so as long as you want the Mastermind effect then go for these seats otherwise go for the less harshly spotlighted seats away from the window)

Back in the room the bathroom was modern, clean and though the water took a little time to warm up occasionally was perfect for a wash and freshen up

Staff were all knowledgable and cheerful and always willing to help and give any advice on restaurants or sightseeing

For three nights this hotel was very enjoyable and we had a very relaxed weekend which was made by the hotels ambience and location

Recommended for a break away and also if you need an out of city centre business location

“Fantastic Hotel!!”

Montenotte Hotel

I stayed at the Montenotte Hotel for a short break in January of this year with my partner and i have to say everything was top class!
We were greeted by a team of beaming receptionists who were so helpful from start to finish. Nothing was too much of a problem for them and they always had a smile on their faces.
The hotel was a 4 star but the service we received was none like I have seen (and I have stayed in quite a few hotels).
The room was very comfortable, probably the best bed I have slept on. The decor was really modern with a really cosy feel to it.
Cork city is just a short stroll away with many shops and restaurants which the staff were only too happy to reccommend.
We had something to eat in the hotels Merchants Bistro which had a great menu and once again the food and service was second to none.
Overall our experience at The Montenotte Hotel was one of which I will remember, We will definately be back!

“Just ok nothing special”

Montenotte Hotel

Hotel only a three star standard. Rooms clean and of a good Standard. The major ninus I had about this hotel was two things really. No live music in the bar at the weekend and food in the restaurant was only so so. The menu for dinner was very limited and because we were on a dinner package got a special menu with only three choices for main course. If you wanted to get the La Le Cart Menu you had to pay a suppliment of 15.00 euro per person. This was a bit of a joke as there is only another two choices for main course on the La Le Carte Menu.
Over-all just ok .
