Shawn and her husband have spent their lives making a beautiful quiet corner in the northwest corner of Ireland to welcome weary travelers. She was so kind to us and so engaging. She was genuinely interested in us and how she could make our stay comfortable. These sorts of people give Ireland its special charm., and what a beautiful breakfast. Thank you Shawn! We stayed at Donegal Manor for one night during a drive around Ireland. The proprietors were extremely nice and welcoming. The atmosphere, with the toasty peat fire in the parlor, was wonderful. The breakfast was DELICIOUS, the best we had the entire time in Ireland. Also, they offered an interesting interactive information station that allowed you to look up attractions, accommodations, and dining anywhere on the island. It was really helpful.

You should know, however, that the property is new -- it's not a historic building or anything like that. Also, my one complaint is that their environmental conservation efforts seem to cause the water pressure in the shower to be low. It was the lowest we experienced on our trip, and most other hotels said they were engaging in water conservation too (but their water pressure was better). Still doable, but not particularly pleasant.

I would definitely recommend this B&B and I would return again as well.

Stayed here for one night with friends during our October trip around Ireland. This Manor House just outside of town was delightfully appointed, with a nice sitting area downstairs by the fireplace, and a well apportioned quiet room. The proprietors do a great job of making you feel welcome, and I could not recommend this small quiet guest house with enough enthusiasm.

We stayed in a Deluxe Room in this Guesthouse and found it very comfortable. Lots of hot water and clean towels whenever needed. Tea making facilities in room which was great. Breakfast was very nice a cold buffet, fruit juices, cereals, fruit compotes, natural yogurt, dried fruits, breads and following a choice of a cooked breakfast - Irish with toast and a couple of other hot options. The cooked breakfast was excellent, one of the best Irish Breakfasts we have had. Hot coffee, tea or herbal teas if wanted. We were just escaping from the office for a few days and the stay was fine.

I personally have to say the photos on the website are a little misleading.. the house is not so cosy as depicted and a little dark inside and could do with a few more personal touches, but just my opinion, many others from reviews found it fine. The landlady very helpful and not imposing in any way.. just there if you needed her for anything, directions, advice about places to eat or see etc.

The house outside especially needs some attention. On arriving a bit bleak and it is situated on a main road... we were in a room at the back so no noise but would not have liked to be looking out onto the car park and main bye pass road into Donegal Town. The garden and surrounds could do with some brightening up, no flowers, not even any pretty pots or plantars to brighten up the grey stone and tarmac just concrete everywhere so not very inviting as I said a little "dark".

The rooms don't appear to be sound proof and you could hear very easily from the corridors and also in the next rooms, we had this one night and were glad it was our last night ... a crying baby or some lively children or someone with a few drinks too many and it would have been a night which would result in lack of sleep!

I have nothing very bad to say about Donegal Manor and would not say don't stay there, but also I would not say to my friends to stay there, just something lacking ...a rather dead place and no I don't think we would stay there again... don't be deceived by the web pictures of the rooms!

“Luxury AND Value!!!”

We've been to Ireland 3 times and this place was the best as far as it being new, great rooms and a great price. When we booked the room she told me 100 euro and after we arrived my husband told me to make sure it wasnt 100 euro per person - that's how nice it was. We got one of the superior rooms, I believe there are 4, but when I snooped around to look at the other regular rooms, they were very nice also, I'd say about the same size as a nice American hotel. The owners are very nice and very accomodating, if you are travelling with a group there is a large common room right when you walk in with tables and benches and a tv and the breakfast room is beautiful and bountiful. The only thing I would caution about is that in the guest house directory I believe it says one mile from town which seems walkable, but it is not. If you are a couple with no designated driver and you want to stay out drinking at the pubs all night and walk home, this is not the place for you, otherwise, I wouldn't even dream about staying anywhere else!
