“Great Location - Poor Service”

Stayed here for business and had a series of problems.

Requested an iron four times over two separate days, I finally received the 'only iron' in Dublin and of course it was broken.

The wi-fi link didn't work and I quote 'I'll be up straightaway' two hours later I had to check out so wasn't around when the assistance showed up, or maybe this was just a novel way of keeping the rooms full for another night.

To top it all I stood in reception for 40 minutes while my taxi was being summoned, upon questioning the staff member when it may arrive they replied 'Oh you want this now'. Call me old fashioned but asking for a taxi when checking out with all your bags would generally be a decent pre-cursor for ASAP.

Decent room, decent breakfast, awful staff.

I stayed two weeks July, 2007. Internet rate was 105 euros
per night, prepaid, on hotel's website. EXCELLENT value.
Right on Merrion Square, across street from Air Coach
station--45 minutes to airport, 30 minutes from (fewer
stops). Bus fare only 7 euros, cab was 38 euros. Only
2 minute walk to National Gallery.

Front desk staff very helpful. Unable to check in early, so
they watched luggage while we hit the museums. Offered
a nice complimentary upgrade to a jr. suite. Queen bed,
marble bath, dining table for two, internet, in room safe.

I would definitely stay here again. Buses a little noisy,
so take earplugs, but a well-run, clean property and
an incredible value in a very pricey city.

“Nice rooms, attentive staff”

O'Callaghan Mont Clare Hotel

My husband and I stayed for 10 days in May of 2005 and had a wonderful time. The staff as very attentive, and helpful if we had any questions about transportation or tours. They booked both of our day trips for us, one via bus and the other via train. We had breakfast every morning, the variety of food was wonderful and well cooked. The fresh baked bread every morning was excellent.
We found the Pub on the second night. Most nights it was not crowded, and the bar keep Cyril was an entertaining character. We ate dinner there most evenings, the soup and bread make a filling dinner. We began to look forward to Cyril and his stories of his youth in the evenings. The rest of the staff was just as friendly.
We found the rooms to be of adequate size, and very clean. It isn't a huge room, but we are not large people and felt that the size was just fine for us. Our bed for comfortable, our shower worked well. There wasn't anything lacking as far as we could tell. Our room looked just as pictured on the website, the same decorations and colors. It was very nice.
We should have written this review when we returned in 2005. Our stay was nice enough that we plan on going back to stay when we return to Dublin.

I travelled to this hotel in August of 2005 with a friend of mine. Our first day there, after exploring the Dublin sights for a few hours, we returned back to the hotel to find that our room had been broken in to. Our luggage had been rummaged through and tossed about the room and a couple of small electronic items had been stolen. When we called to report it to the front desk staff, they were less than interested. They accused us of maybe leaving our door open when we left and suggested that we should have tried to shove the entire contents of our suitcases in the tiny closet safe.

We were told that the manager would be looking into the situation and to check back the following day when we returned from our day trip. Each day went like that- the hotel didn't have any information and the general manager was unable to discuss things with us outside of her normal work hours. She couldn't even come to work an hour early to talk to us so that we could resolve the issue before heading out for a day trip. We even called to speak to the general manager at one point during a day trip and got nowhere with her. We ended up getting so frustrated with the hotel and realized that we were never going to get anywhere with them that we decided to file a report with the Police. The entire experience left us unable to thoroughly enjoy our trip to Ireland, as our trip was constantly interrupted by having to contact the hotel.

I have a handwritten letter from the general manager assuring us that the incident was being looked into, but we never heard anyting from the hotel other than "the incident is being looked into". I also have a copy of the crime report taken by the police. Another room was never offered to us, so the remaining few nights were spent in the hotel worrying if someone would break in again and assault us. We weren't compensated at all for our stolen items or for the inconvenience of having to put our vacation on hold to constantly check in with the hotel staff to inquire as to the status of the investigation.

The staff was rude, maybe because they were tired of dealing with us, but they always seemed annoyed and disinterested when we approached the front desk to ask a simple question about sightseeing.

Other than the break-in and theft, the hotel was centrally located and the room we stayed in was quaint and comfortable. It's probably a fine hotel if nothing goes wrong, but if something does, don't expect the hotel staff to be eager in any way to accomodate or assist you. I'd stay somewhere else.

We stayed here recently as we were going to a concert and wanted to have easy access to the special concert buses being laid on. Parking would be expensive if during the day - it was €2.50 an hour but as we arrived around 4.30pm we could avail of their offer of overnight parking for €8, so that wasn't too bad.

The room we got was quite small but adequate. Aircon was very noisy. Shower was good and powerful but the bathroom was a bit shabby. Paint was peeling on the ceiling above the bath and there was mould both on the ceiling and shower curtain which I found very off putting.

Lighting was also very dark in the room. Breakfast was fine, but the room was quite small so because of the number of guests you end up bumping into people quite a lot!

The other annoying thing was that they only had one tiny lift, so you sometimes had to wait ages for it to come to the floor - we ended up using the staircase at one stage it took that long!

Overall it wasn't bad for the price and the location is good.
