Have just returned from a three night stay in this hotel in Dublin. There were mixed reviews on tripadvisor, so I was unsure what to expect, but I needn't have worried as I was not disappointed in any way. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the room on the fourth floor overlooking the canal was spacious and just what was required. The bathroom was fine! The breakfast staff were also very courteous and the food itself was just what you'd expect of a 3 star hotel - no complaints there at all. Vegetarian food was cooked to demand - poached eggs were fabby! For this price and location (20 mins walk to Trinity) I was very happy with the Mespil and would gladly stay there again.

“Comfortable stay in a great location”

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights at the beginning of July 2008 and had very few complaints for a hotel outside of the US. While the customer service ranged from excellent to average, we liked the room, loved the location (5-10 minute walk to Grafton Street/anywhere in downtown Dublin...can't beat that!), and thought the price was excellent (especially with the dollar being so low right now). The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were big for Europe.

The rooms had comfy beds and our room had a very nice view of the Grand Canal. I also loved the neighborhood surrounding us - much better than some of the upscale hotels off of Grafton. I loved the fact that we could go a few doors down to a nice grocery store, pharmacy, and a few really reasonably priced and non-touristy restaurants. If you're traveling on a budget, I highly recommend checking out the take away fish and chips restaurant a few doors down, Beshof Brothers. We LOVED their food! Oh yes, and for you picky Americans like myself, there's a Starbucks next door to the hotel. You can't beat that.

I woulld take this place over the Fitzwilliam Hotel anyday because of the great location. I've stayed there as well and had a much better time in this area of Dublin.

And one last thing - thank you to the French girl who worked at the front desk for recommending the French restaurant on the boat across from our hotel. She was kind enough to check in with us after meal to see how we liked the restaurant!

Oh Dear Lord above!!! Thank you for letting it only be one night I had to stay here!!!. Food in bar in evening time was nice,, and the people that understood what we were saying were nice. Only two friendly staff. The room was tiny - bathroom even smaller, and it was very hard to breathe as it was so stuffy. The heat in the hotel was just not natural. Couldn't open the window more than an inch. Exterior was awful. Had to get smoking room as one of party smokes and it was horrible in the corridors and room, the place really stank, no ventillation. The smoking is not the fault of the hotel owners though, I had just forgotten how horrible it had been before the smoking ban came in.(And I am an occasional one). Not worth the money - won't be going back in a hurry. No Way.

Thank you for your recent review of the Mespil Hotel Dublin.

We are disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I know you stayed in a smoking room which is ideal if you are a smoker, but not as comfortable if you are non smoker. These rooms and corridors are aired daily however due to Health and Safety Regulations the windows open to safe distance.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your meal in the bar although you had mixed feelings regarding the staff, which we have noted.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to draw these issues to our attention.

“Pleasant stay in nice area of Dublin”

Mespil Hotel

2 Jul 2008

No complaints about the hotel and I had a pleasant stay. Would recommend more for business users who want something functional and comfortable, rather than someone looking for somewhere cosy and quaint. Great choice of food for breakfast. Liked the bar area and the bar food was delicious and reasonably priced. The area around was really nice, not far from st Stephens Green and there was a lovely canal to walk along just outside.

I have been in Dublin many times and this was my first stay in the Mespil,

I found the location pretty Good only a stroll from Temple Bar.

I had Dinner in the Bar, and the food was fantastic, brilliant Bar Menu and plenty of thought put into it.

I would definitely have no hesitation coming back here again,

Fabulous well done.
