My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights at the beginning of July 2008 and had very few complaints for a hotel outside of the US. While the customer service ranged from excellent to average, we liked the room, loved the location (5-10 minute walk to Grafton Street/anywhere in downtown Dublin...can't beat that!), and thought the price was excellent (especially with the dollar being so low right now). The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were big for Europe.
The rooms had comfy beds and our room had a very nice view of the Grand Canal. I also loved the neighborhood surrounding us - much better than some of the upscale hotels off of Grafton. I loved the fact that we could go a few doors down to a nice grocery store, pharmacy, and a few really reasonably priced and non-touristy restaurants. If you're traveling on a budget, I highly recommend checking out the take away fish and chips restaurant a few doors down, Beshof Brothers. We LOVED their food! Oh yes, and for you picky Americans like myself, there's a Starbucks next door to the hotel. You can't beat that.
I woulld take this place over the Fitzwilliam Hotel anyday because of the great location. I've stayed there as well and had a much better time in this area of Dublin.
And one last thing - thank you to the French girl who worked at the front desk for recommending the French restaurant on the boat across from our hotel. She was kind enough to check in with us after meal to see how we liked the restaurant!
