“Lovely weekend retreat”

Marine Hotel

15 May 2008

my husband and I travelled with our friends for a surprise weekend away for our friends 40th birthday. I must admit when we heard we were not staying in Dublin itself we were a litle disappointed but on arrival at the hotel it did not matter one bit. Joanne on arrival and throughout the stay was excellant. Fabrise in the restaurant was great and knew all our names on arrival in the restaurant. The room was lovely with a sea view and balcony. It was hot and the radiator was on full but we had no trouble turning it off unlike a couple of our friends rooms. The breakfast in the restaurant was excellant and we had a nice meal in the evening. I say nice because thats what it was, not excellant and nothing to really write home about but on thewhole the stay was great and if i visit Dublin again i would definately choose the hotel again.

We arrived at the Marine Hotel, Dublin on Friday 9th May for a weekend break. Not having stayed here before and having read some of the reviews we were not sure what to expect. However, on arrival the receptionist greeted us warmly welcoming us to the hotel and promtly gave us our key card to room 140. When we booked the hotel we had asked for a view of the coast. We were not disappointed. The room was both comfortable and had the view we wanted. We had booked for a weekend package of 2 nights bed, breakfast & 1 evening meal. The food during our stay was excellent. As with a previous review the restaurant manager is worth his weight in gold! He certainly puts all patrons at ease with just the right amount of chat without being too intrusive. My only small criticism of the meal would be that they still have a limited 'weekend special' menu and that we were unable to chose from the main a la carte menu. The food itself both in the evening and at breakfast time was delicious, hot and plentiful.
The area the hotel is in is beautiful and there are a number of golf courses close by. We went both into Dublin on the Dart train and also into Howth for an afternoon stroll along the harbour. The beauty of the hotel is that the area of Sutton Cross & Howth is incredibly peaceful & quiet and yet it is only 20 minutes on the train into the centre of Dublin with no car parking worries!

“Lovely Hotel - Very Attentive Staff”

12 May 2008

Just returned from a lovely two night break with my Husband and 7 friends - I arranged it as a surprise for my Husband 40th Birthday.

We caught the 102 (Dublin bus) from the airport to Sutton Station which was only €2 per person it took about 50mins but it came along the coast so was quite a nice journey.

I had been in contact with Joanne on reception prior to our arrival and she was on duty to greet us when we arrived – she had lots of advice on local transport and local restaurants. I had been told that our rooms were not available until 3pm but we checked in straight away which was great. We had dinner at the hotel on the second night which was the day of my husband’s birthday – Fabrise the Restaurant Manager was fantastic and extremely attentive. On departure Graham was very kind and took our luggage and the ladies in the party to the train station in his car while the gents took the 10 minute walk up the road.

Our room was lovely with a small balcony and a sea view. The only slight thing was that the radiators were on in all the rooms which made them really hot and we found them difficult to turn down.

Overall our party had an excellent stay and we would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn’t want to be right in the city centre but close enough by bus/train (personally recommend the DART Train).

Thank you very much.

We stayed at the Marine Hotel in May, we wanted to visit Dublin but not be in the thick of it all. The Marine hotel met our criteria fully. Ideally located for excellent seafood restaurants in nearby Howth, also public transport is available both bus (which is directly outside the hotel) and the train station which is only a 5 minute walk away and the cost of 2 euros each way to Dublin is very cheap.

The hotel itself is in a wonderful position overlooking the sea. The hotel is clean, and has been decorated to a high standard. The staff were a credit to the management of the hotel, being helpful, friendly and polite, nothing was too much trouble. The manager even drove us to Howth one evening (never had this sort of service before)!!
The meals are excellent in the hotel, however it is also worth visiting nearby Howth if you are a fan of seafood. We would without doubt return to the Marine and we recommend to all for service, quality and value for money.

To start each day with the Marine's full Irish breakfast and you won't be wanting for the rest of the day!

“Fantastic weekend break”

This was a long awaited weekend break with my husband, along with his brother and wife. We hadn't been away all together without the children since my daughter was born 9 years ago.

The main reason for choosing the dates we did was because there was a boat show on in Malahide and we were looking forward to going to that.

We had used Trip Advisor to read reviews on different hotels and liked the look of the Marine. We were certainly not disappointed. Everything was fantastic throughout the entire weekend. We had booked a weekend package which included 2 nights accommodation, breakfast and dinner on 1 night. We chose to eat in the first night. We had an excellent meal and the Restaurant Manager was a real credit to the hotel (sorry I didn't get his name). The breakfast each morning was all very good - plenty of choice of cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurts, breads, cheeses and then the full Irish breakfast - wow!

The hotel was only about 3 or 4 minute walk from the train station which we used to go into Malahide and also into Dublin. It was great not having to worry about getting parked. The hotel car park had plenty of spaces.

We also used the hotel swimming pool, sauna and steam room (to try and work off some of the effects of the aforementioned breakfasts!). They were all very clean and we thoroughly enjoyed them.

The bedrooms were large, bright and airy. TV, tea/coffee, iron/trouser press - all the things you would expect from a great hotel. If you had told me it was a 4 star instead of its 3 star rating, I would certainly have had no complaints.

I can highly recommend (and have done so already to several friends and family) this hotel and look forward to coming back again - hopefully sooner rather than later.
