Stayed at this hotel for a one night break (9th Feb). Good location far enough outside of the centre for a quiet nights sleep but within an easy walk (20 mins) or tram ride (5 mins) The room was clean & spacious, the hotel staff friendly. We ate in the hotel bar and the food was good and reasonably priced.

Stayed at Ashling Hotel 1st to 4th Feb 2007 for 4 day post Christmas get-away!!

On arrival at Dublin Airport, catch 748 bus from directly outside arrivals terminal to Heuston Train Station for 5 Euros. This takes you almost to the door of the Best Western Ashling.

The Hotel itself was more than adequate for our needs. We booked direct via the Best Western Web-Site and got an early bookers deal where breakfast was thrown in for free...... Really nice breakfast with good variety of options. Also Hotel Bar (Guiness Lounge) good atmosphere and Guinness 1 Euro cheaper per pint than Temple Bar area.

The hotel is slightly out of the hustle and bustle of the centre of Dublin with a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute tram ride at a cost of 2 Euro 70 (return) into the centre. This was ideal for us!!!

Situated almost opposite the Guinness Factory (well worth a visit and, the complimentary pint of Guiness at the end in the Gravity Bar gives fantastic views of the city!)

Other attractions we visited were the Kilmainham Gaol and the Jamesons Distillery (although this was closed due to a refurb - re-opening around March.... still worth a visit to the visitors centre for a large free glass of Whiskey!)

We also did the open topped bus tour of the city which you can hop on and off at any point with your ticket being valid for 24 hours.

There is no shortage of eating / drinking establishments in Temple Bar (just watch out for the vomit on the floor from the previous night if you get there before the street cleaners!). Would highly reccommend Gallaghers Boxty House for traditional Irish and you must give the Boxty a try! (Would reccommend booking any tables at restaurants with 24 hours notice, particularly at the weeked as it does get V. busy).

Must go to Ryans Bar which is the oldest bar in Dublin for step back in time. This is approx 100 yards from hotel door in opposite direction from Cenral Dublin. Traditional Bar with original features.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable few days.

Very much a standard tourist class hotel. Nothing terribly inspiring, but nothing terribly bad either. A decent enough place to tour a busy city.
Rooms were quite spacious. No view to speak off, since we're in the middle of the city. Breakfast very mass produced but decent enough.

Located a few minutes from a tram stop that takes you into Dublin City Centre. Very convenient place to see the city. But not a place to hang out in. Very much a place to come back to after a long day of sightseeing and shopping, and to just crash.

Would come back if I return to the city.

Oh and there was free parking for guests, which was great for us, as it was the last leg of our driving tour and we didn't want to drive around Dublin really (cities are meant for walking); lucky not to have to pay city parking prices!

We had a short break at the Ashling and found the Hotel and Staff to be warm and friendly.
The rooms were of an average size and in good condition.
Breakfast was great with plenty to choose from.
The Ashling is a few minutes by Bus or Tram to the main areas in Dulin, both are easy to catch from the Hotel with Heuston station only a two minute walk across the river Liffey. We bought a 25 euro pass at the airport which coverd us for three days. We did not need any other tickets for transport as this covered the Dublin tour, city buses, and a return to journey for the airport too.
The Hotel is in an OK area of Dublin but we did not feel uneasy about being there at all. Overall very satisfied with the Ashling, just perfect for a short break in Dublin. Thank you.

Stayed at the Ashling Hotel 12-14 January. The hotel had been recommended by 3 people to me. As this was our first visit to Dublin, the recommendation was appreciated. When we arrived at Dublin Airport we caught the 748 airlink bus (5euros each) right outside which took approx 40-50 mins to get to Heuston Station (depends on traffic, on the way back to Dublin Airport it only took approx 25 mins as it was quiet)j. The hotel is just across the road from Heuston Station with the River Liffey right in front of the hotel. The hotel is probably 5-10min luas (tram)ride to/from the city centre which you catch at Heuston Station every few minutes, the last one back at night is just after midnight.

The front of the hotel is quite bland but inside the hotel is very pleasant. The staff are very friendly. The hotel is very clean. The Guinness Lounge in the hotel is a very cozy pub type bar that sells food and the prices are quite reasonable when compared with the city centre and there is also a Bistro for evening meals. The breakfast (cereal, porridge, juice, buffet cooked breakfast, tea and coffee) in the morning is great just what you need for a days exploring and guinness drinking!! We had a standard double room which was very nice. Massive bed, comfy pillows, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer (not brilliant), tv, trouser press and smallish bathroom with shower. The view wasn't bad but then we didn't go to Dublin to look out of our bedroom window all day! There was an ironing room just down the corridor from our room if you needed it.

In the immediate area there isn't an awful lot but just a short walk down the road there is a decorative arts museum and the guinness factory and then a little further you are in the city centre.

We would definately recommend this hotel as an easily accessible, pleasant place to stay and would certainly stay here again.
