I last stayed here on a Thursday night for a Friday morning meeting in Dublin, but it's the hotel I most often use when visiting Dublin, and I would strongly recommend it.
I have stayed in this hotel before the re-modelling, and the quality of the new fit-out is far above that of the older decor. The beds in particular have improved from being good before to being superb now. The room I had was air-conditioned, I could set the temperature myself, and unlike many hotel a/c systems the unit was quiet enough to leave on at night.
An added bonus - there is free wireless internet access in all of the rooms! Some services are limited for security reasons, but for checking mail, web-browsing or connecting to a company VPN, it works a treat. It's refreshing to find a hotel that doesn't try to gouge its clients for what is becoming a necessity in business accommodation.
Some rooms are a bit tight, but I have seen smaller. (To those used to the cavernous rooms in west-coast US hotels, any Irish hotel room will seem small). I have been informed that when the hotel is fully completed (the older rooms are now being remodelled), there will be more larger-sized rooms available.
Speaking of which, while I was told that there is still building work going on, there was no obstruction to the front of the hotel when I visited, and not a workman to be seen anywhere.
The front desk staff are friendly and helpful - unlike many other places I've stayed, you get the feeling that they're interested. Check-in was quick and efficient, but did require a pre-authorisation of my credit-card. Check-out, which I always think is more important to get right, was quick and faultless.
On the ground floor there's a Chinese restaurant ("Abacus"), and a spacious, modern bar area, with hot food service. I ate in the Chinese, and it was excellent: far, far above the "hotel restaurant" you usually see in this price range. The early-bird menu was excellent value, and service was also top-notch.
Some things still need a bit of work: the hallways and stairwells have not been painted yet, but where it matters: the beds, facilities, the service, and the location, the Academy is right on the money. You'll spend far more in Dublin and get a lot less.
