“lovely hotel, good for RDS”

Schoolhouse Hotel

Booked this hotel hotel because it was within walking distance of RDS.
Caught aircoach from the airport straight to the hotel. It took about 50 mins.
This is a lovely, small, original hotel. Room was huge, clean, although bathroom was very small, bath very shallow, and shower too hard to stand under! But this wouldn't put me off returning. ( i don't agree with previous review that it was dated, it just wasn't modern)
Hotel is right by the grand canal, it is a lovely setting.
It was an easy walk (20 mins) to o'connell st.
Hotel breakfast was excellent, & freshly cooked.
Ate in restaurant one night, food was excellent although quite alot was unavailable, and only the restaurant menu was available (it said in hotel info that both menus were available in both bar and restaurant).
Left luggage at hotel and then went back to catch aircoach (traffic was bad and it took much longer to get back to the airport.
I would definitely stay again, thought the location was brilliant - quiet but within walking distance of everything.

Where do I start? The room was shabby and run-down; light bulbs missing, all the wood furniture worn, carpet had seen better days and the bathroom has wood panelling that was warped and although I'm sure it was clean, the wood looked gross. I was offered another room which was better but I booked a "Girls Weekend" package which was a mistake. Not all hotels should offer a relaxing weekend; the hotel was very busy, the room was facing a noisy street, the restaurant that I heard 'rave reviews' about was booked out for a wedding and we had to eat in the busy pub with the after-work Friday crowd. The heating in the room was complicated to control so it was always too hot or too cold and VERY dry for some reason (which is unusual for this country!).

The service was very good, the staff very friendly and the bed was actually comfortable. The breakfast was very good as well and included in the price.

If only used for a place to crash if you're a tourist then it's fine but definitely NOT 'luxurious getaway' sort of place as the rooms are in dire need of renovations.

We stayed here for 2 nights in february 2008 for the Italy six nations match. The hotel has a lovely comforatable feeling with real character. The location is excellent, only a 10 minute walk from grafton street. The breakfast was so good and in such a nice setting that we returned for dinner on the second evening and were not disappointed.
A++ for this hotel

“Mixed feelings”

Schoolhouse Hotel

Spent four nights at this hotel late November 2007. The airport bus stopped right outside the door which was very convenient as it was 7.30pm and raining when we arrived. The small lobby was warm and check in quick. We had already been travelling for a few weeks staying in reasonably cheap accommodation, and had booked the Schoolhouse as a bit of an end of trip treat. Our room named George Bernard Shaw was located at the end of the corridor The room was tastefully decorated and had french doors opening onto the garden, but was smaller than other rooms in the hotel.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay but there were a couple of reasons why we probably wouldn't stay there again. We had some problems with lack of hot water, missing out on a shower altogether one morning. When we mentioned this to reception, they suggested that as the hotel was quite full we should get up earlier if we wanted some hot water.

The Ballsbridge area was nice but a bit far out of the city centre.
The weather was cold and the days short and we needed the use the DART to go everywhere.

We ate two nights in the hotel bar, which always seemed to be busy and had a nice atmosphere. The meals were OK as was the included breakfast.

The Schoolhouse was the most expensive of 17 hotels we stayed in and while it was comfortable it was not exceptional for the price we paid.

We stayed here for New Years Eve (December 31 to January 3). We caught a airport bus from Stance Number 5 which took us straight to the hotel. Very handy!! 12 Euros for the return journey.

Check-in was easy and quick. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. We were in Room 220 which over-looked the side of the hotel. But despite being off a main road, it was quiet.

One of the days I mentioned a few things that werent working in our room (sockets etc) and they were sorted out by the time we got back a few hours later.

I also had cause to call reception about something else not working but this was fixed within 5 minutes. Very impressive!!

Called for room service one day and the item was delivered within 10 minutes. Impressive again!!

Bathroom was small, but it was fine for us. The bed is MASSIVE!! Very comfortable and cosy.

Breakfast was filling. Cereal, toast, pastries, juice - you can also choose from a menu. We tried the pancakes, salmon and scrambeled eggs and the friend breakfast. All which were very tasty.

It took about 15/20 minutes to walk into the town which was fine. There are bus stops close by but we never used them.

Would we stay there again when we go back to Dublin?? Yup!! Much better than the last place I stayed in Dublin!!!
