We stayed at the hotel for New Year's for 4 days, and were happy with the location and the cleanliness. The beds were very hard (the beds everywhere in Ireland are very hard) and the heater control on the wall didn't work, you had to monkey with the control on the actual radiator heater, but the temperature was fine for sleeping. The room was very small but clean. The shower had the half-door design (meaning you splashed all over the floor) and no fan. In my opinion it was more expensive than what it was worth, but it was still O.K. if you disregard the beds. For a night or two, I would probably re-book if I wanted to be in that area. Otherwise, I would stay at the Crown Plaza near the airport, which is a much better value.

This hotel is fantastic and although a little further out than the likes of Bewleys or some of the Jurys hotels it is still within walking distance of Temple Bar (15 minutes away and I have a bad leg) and is much more cosey than the other hotel chains I have stayed in! The rooms are huge and each has a balcony. The beds are very comfortable, and each room has an iron and ironing board, a TV & DVD player as well as internet access point and a power shower which does exactly what it says! The hotel also has an underground car park which is operated by a third party and is pretty reasonable 10 euros for 24 hours! It also boasts its own restaurant which isn't bad - we all enjoyed our meals but if you are into plush hotel food and silver service you will be disappointed - the menu is quite varied but the food is simplistic.

Next door to the hotel there is a superb mini supermarket which has everything from ATM and change converting machine to expresso coffee, alcohol and freshly baked pastries (e.g. croissants, pies etc) which you can eat in the shops little cafe. You can even get sandwiches/wraps made here and take them away with you! Also through much of November/December there is a temporary ice rink erected in the plaza outside - this added to the Christmas spirit and was really lovely!

Overall my friends and I thought that this hotel was a true gem and we are all agreed that the next time we are in Dublin this is where we will stay!

“Great choice for Dublin”

Maldron Hotel Smithfield

I stayed at the Comfort Inn for 4 nights in November on business. I booked this hotel based on the reviews here and was not dissappointed.

I arrived at the hotel around 8am to drop my luggage off for later check-in but they had a room available and allowed me to check in at that time which was great.

The room I was given on the 5th floor was spacious and well laid out. There are tea/coffee making facilities provided. I did not use these but the selection looked quite nice. The desk was comfortable to use when I took advantage of the free broadband access. Most importantly to me, the room was spotlessly clean. The room was also very quiet and I had no problem sleeping on each of the nights I was there.

I ate in the hotel restaurant several times and the food was quite nice. The service was also friendly and efficient. If in Dublin as a tourist then there are a large number of restaurants nearby and I would recommend venturing out to try them. I would highly recommend the Chameleon restaurant in Temple Bar for experiencing a variety of tasty dishes (the banana dessert there is also a must). I did not try the hot breakfast but there was a reasonable selection of yogurt, cheeses, etc available as well as the usual tea/coffee, toast, and cereals. The only thing lacking was a selection of fresh fruit. If breakfast is not included in your room rate then you may find better value by going to a nearby cafe.

As far as location, the hotel is within walking distance of most things in central Dublin and would be a good base for tourists. The fact that it is slightly away from Temple Bar, etc is a plus for me as those areas can be noisy at all hours. As previously mentioned, there is also a tram stop about a minutes walk away.

The Comfort Inn Smithfield is an excellent choice for value minded travelers. The clean rooms and helpful staff provide a welcome retreat after a day of sightseeing. Although out of the main shopping and restaurant area, public transportation is close and walking preferred. Most tourist sights are within a 20-25 minute walk.

A large, well-stocked market and deli is next door. The Cobblestone, one of the best pubs in Dublin for live music, is adjacent.

There is more than one Comfort Inn in Dublin. Be sure to specify Smithfield.
