I found out about this hotel here in Trip Advisor. I was going to book another hotel and many Trip Advisor fellow posters told me to choose this are, Stephen's Green, and they were not mistaken. It's the perfect starting point to explore Dublin. We were only one/two blocks away from what seems to be one of the meeting points in Dublin, where Grafton St. starts, just opposite Stephen Green's Park. The hotel is very nice, not quite a 4-star, but a very good 3. The bed was king size, the bathroom impecable, lcd tv, ironing board, coffee/tea machine in the room, which had a very good size and cupboard. We had a standard room and it was perfect, don't know about the others but the size was ok for a couple, I wouldn't advise you to pay an extra charge for anything bigger. The gym was well equipped and there is a business centre in the basement, although you had to pay a fee to use it. I hope they change this policy in the future. Internet access in hotels of this category should be free. Breakfast was expensive: Euros 16 per person, but there are plenty of cafes nearby, where you can have a great b-fast for Euros 5. There is also a nice bar downstairs where you can watch a rugby match or have a drink, even grab sthg to eat at reasonable prices. The staff members were nice but would not go over the edge to help you. I needed an adaptor for my plugs, for instance, but no one could help me with this, not even telling me where I could get one myself. However, I highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, cleanliness and, overall, its PERFECT LOCATION !

We stayed here for 3 nights, and I have to say I was pleasently suprised. The hotel is clean and modern, with all the facilities you would expect in your room. For a 4 star the lack of Spa/pool was a disappointment, but the friendly and very helpful staff more than made up for this.

The hotel is on Stephens Green which is an ideal location for sightseeing and nights out. There was a bit of noise on Saturday night as the main nightclubs in the area are down the street so when people came out of them they were a bit rowdy, but this soon died down.

“nice hotel but lacks character”

O'Callaghan Stephen's Green Hotel

18 Feb 2008

I booked this hotel via Lastminute for my wife's birthday.

The hotel is quite nice but lacks that certain character to be classed as a boutique. There was nothing amazing about the place, everything is probably above average. The rooms were clean and linen and towels changed everyday, the view was of the corner of St.Stephens and the road outside was very quiet at nights, although there were a few east european beggers.

The bar was reasonable but very quiet during our stay. Never tried the restaurant as fantastic breakfasts could be got on Grafton street at the Oriental cafe.

I never had any cause for complaint, the reception staff were pleasent, the bar staff, did their job but didn't seem chatty.

All in-all the place was nice but nothing special. Ideal if you are looking for something less than £100 a night.

Ididn't have a choice for this hotel. It was booked for me as I was on business. The location was very good. However I thought the hotel lacked character and ambiance and cannot say that I enjoyed my stay. They gym was full of equipment that had no instructions and/or didn;t work. Too many staff who conversed in their own language and were clearly more interested in talking to each other than seeing to the guests. Cleaner entered my room when DO NOT DISTURB light was clearly visible. Breakfast was very mediocre. Tonned fruit for breakfast, weak tea - no personalisation whatsoever. I had a beautiful view over a brick wall! I was meeting a friend at a well known Dublin restaurant but the staff were unable to give me directions despite it being very close - don't they have a good Dublin map??? Yes, the mini bar was empty!! What is the point of that? It would have been nice to have had some drinking water in the room. Pleased I was only staying there one night. Also the hotel should take note - you should make Wi-Fi available at no additional charge.

Dear Guest, thank you for your comments regarding your stay. I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay as we try and ensure every guest leaves the hotel happy.

Thanks to comments such as yours we have been able to identify a problem did exist with the gym equipment and have been able address the issue. We have had the equipment serviced and will now do so on a regular basis.

Regarding your other issues there is instructions on how to use the facilitys in the gym on each piece of equipment but if there is any item that is unclear please just ask one of the duty managers who are all familiar with the equipment.

We do offer to fill the mini bar as stated in the guest directory on request and there is also 24hour room service should you require any items.
I appolagise for the housekeeping department entering your room and more training has been provided thanks to your comments. The management are also looking into the possibility of free wi-fi at the momment but there is also a complementary business center avaliable 24hours to guests offering free internet access.
I appolagise that you didnt have a view from your bedroom window, the majority of the back facing rooms have a view of the mountains, while the front facing rooms have a view overlooking Stephens Green Park. As you can imagine being in a prime city center location it will not always be possible to have a great view.

Thank you again for your comments and for helping us to continually improve are service.

Kind Regards
Daniel Hoad

We was very pleased with our stay at the OCallaghan St Stephens Green. After seeing the other Ocallaghan hotels this one has the best location. The hotel and our room was clean and everything worked. The hotels location is great, a few minutes walk and your on Grafton Street and not much further you will find Temple Bar. The bar in the hotel was also very nice, we didn't eat in the restaurant but wish we had as the prices in the hotel for both drinks and food was considerably cheaper than the restaurants and bars we went to...surprisingly!!!! I would recommend this hotel, i wasn't wowed but it but it did the job!! Be careful in Dublin though had my credit card cloned!!!!
