My husband and I went to Ireland and Scotland on our honeymoon. We booked a room at Donnybrook 4 months in advance because we saw that some rooms were not ensuite, and we wanted an ensuite room. In the response we received, we were told that only 1 of the 9 rooms was not ensuite so that would be no problem, and that we should mention a parking space for our rental car when we submitted the reservation. We requested an ensuite room, off the garden if possible and a parking space for our car. When we arrived the first evening after driving a couple hours from Blarney, the parking space was taken and we were shown to a very small double room that looked out to the street below with no ensuite bathroom. The bathroom was down the hall. We explained to the nice gal who checked us in that we had specifically requested an ensuite room, but she said that the room she gave us was the “only one they had left.” The owner was very nice; he sought us out the next morning to apologize and say there had been a mix up the prior day. He also told us they would be moving us to an ensuite room for our 2nd night. The new room was lovely, ensuite and off the garden as originally requested. The owner also gave us a 20 Euro discount for the first night, which was better than nothing though given that we’d booked 4 months in advance, at least ½ off would have been more fitting. When we went to settle up the evening of our 2nd/last night, the gal who checked us in was the only one there and she is apparently not trained on using the credit card machine. Since we were leaving very early the next morning for our flight to Scotland, we had to walk down to the closest ATM which costs at least $5 US each time we use it, to get cash to pay for our stay. We had high hopes for Donnybrook and we really enjoyed the neighborhood, but I’m sorry to say that we would not return because of the experience we had there.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — We really liked the area and the good restaurants in the Ranelagh neighborhood a few blocks away.
    • Disliked — That they did not hold the right room for us even though we booked 4 months in advance, and made a specific request which we were told would be no problem.

Donnybrook Hall is an ideal place to stay in Dublin, particularly if you want to be within a reasonable distance to the city center, but far enough away to enjoy a quiet night's sleep. The rates are quite reasonable for the high level of quality accommodation offered.
The house itself is beautifully decorated and amazingly clean. My room was lovely, with a spacious en suite bathroom.
The staff is quite friendly and capable, and the owner is on hand frequently to personally offer advice on sightseeing, dining, etc. I also enjoyed the 24 hour tea and coffee (and cookies) offered in the sunroom for guests. Breakfast is cooked to order every morning, with a nice variety of well-prepared choices. (And you get to meet really interesting people during breakfast, too.)
I would highly recommend Donnybrook Hall to anyone visiting Dublin.

The Donnybrook Hall Hotel is a gem of a place to stay in the Donnybrook / Ballsbridge area of Dublin. This was my ninth visit to Dublin and I have always stayed in the Donnybrook / Ballsbridge neighborhood. I found the Donnybrook Hall Hotel's rooms to be very clean, roomy and lovely. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast selection is vast and excellent. Plus the hotel's location is excellent for exploring Dublin on foot or via public transportation, which I consider the best way to see this city! The price also is very reasonable.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of a tour. It is a 20 minute, 1,40 euro bus ride into the city centre. The buses are very frequent, and easy to negotiate.

It is a very peaceful location, with decent pubs at the end of the street.

Very tidy rooms with plenty of space.

Family very friendly, and breakfast was lovely.

I stayed at Donnybrook Hall for 6 nights last week and found it just what I was looking for. A clean, quiet guest-house, away from the city centre noise, but easy to get into Dublin from the bus-stop at the end of the road. Really friendly staff and a decent breakfast, cooked to order, unlikely most hotels nowadays. Several places for an evening meal within walking distance.
