We enjoyed our stay at Ross Castle Lodge.
The location is quiet and away from the main town of Killarney.
It is right next to the National Park and a few minutes walk from Ross Castle. We preferred this even though it meant a bit of a walk to Killarney in the evening for a meal.
There is a road/track directly opposite Ross castle lodge that you can take to Killarney through the national park. (follow this until the river and turn right). We saw a herd of red stag cross our path on our walk here.
This walk will take about 25 minutes to the main restaurant area in Killarney (main street).
The accommodation was clean and comfortable with a huge bed (two singles joined as one?).
Breakfast was good and freshly prepared.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful planning where to visit.
We took the boat trip from Ross Castle across three lakes and joing riversto Lord Brandons Cottage at the top of the Gap of Dunloe, walked the 7 miles of the Gap to Kate Kearney's cottage where the bus waited to pick us up for our return to Ross castle lodge (included). The 7 mile walk takes a while, and you don't have a huge amout of time after a bite at the cottage, so if you are not sure or unfit take the jaunting cabs (horse carriage - extra cost) back instead of walking. This was a good day out that you can book at the Ross Castle Lodge (about 25/30 euro each).
We enjoyed our stay - and would go back there if returning.
The only reason not to choose here would be if the walk to Killarney would be a problem for you.
