Railway Hostel is a 3-minute walk from the bus station, located right next to a lovely church, and a 5-minute walk to the city centre.

We spent three nights there, and we could not rave enough about the staff. They were incredibly accommodating, and I am sorry I have forgotten their names, as they were wonderful. They helped us in our tour bookings, as you were able to book everything right there, and they also helped us make our reservations for our next hostel, which proved to be a little more complicated than we had expected. Even though we went back to the staff several times with questions, they were always extremely friendly and polite.

The room we got (a 10-bed dorm named Oyster), felt like a chalet. The bunk beds were wooden and cosy. The showers were push button, but the water temperature was perfect, which was a first on our travels in Ireland (it's usually scorching, or too cold).

Kitchen was big, but there is NO oven, only gas burners and a microwave. Just plan ahead and do not buy food that need to go in the oven. We met really friendly people over there, and the hostel is reall comfortable and not overly crowded. You feel at ease wandering around the TV room or just chatting with your fellow backpackers.

For 5 Euros, your laundry is also washed, dried and folded. I'm telling, this is the place to stay at in Killarney. Don't hesitate to book Railway.

We stayed in a double room with ensuite (50 euros). Note that the themed rooms are not actually themed inside - they're just titled eg. The Chimp Room.

Room - big for a hostel, lots of room for luggage, bathroom was small but clean, comfortable bed.

Breakfast - typical self-serve toast and cereal backpacker style breakfast. Reasonable for the price.

Facilities/atmosphere - has a big kitchen and common area for socialising.

Location - very close to town - everything needed was within walking distance of the hostel. Large Tesco close by.

Parking - limited on-premises parking available - cannot park elsewhere lest you be towed.

This is a friendly, quiet Hostel on a side street off a main street. Right across from an outlet mall, if that sort of thing is important to you. The rooms were clean and neat. The shower had a proper knob instead of the timed push buttons most other Hostels had. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The guests were a nice mix of ages and nationalities. The only thing to be mindful of is to be sure to get to the provided breakfast [which is white bread toast and cereal] early or the condiments could get used up before you get there.
It's easy to walk to the sights and pubs from the Hostel and you felt safe walking the streets late at night. Make sure to heed the staff's recommendation for traditional music pubs. We went out on our own and ended up with the Disney version of traditional Irish Music.
In all a great visit.

Loved the place. Would go again. Perfect location - right next to a church - the bells were a treat to listen to. Friendly and efficient staff - even late at night they helped us with the check-in and making a phone call. Kitchen was well-kept and provided for. Clean dishtowels and sponges were regularly available. I was disappointed to see that there was no recycling. This should be changed. When there was noise from rowdy guests on our first night, the hostel staff dealt with the issue immediately. The dining room had picnic tables set up. We were given a room with 3 double beds for our family of five. the bathroom (co-ed) across the hall was clean and shower room was clean (could use more hooks and a shelf in the stalls of the showers). When we had trouble with the water pressure we were immediately allowed to shower in one of the private ensuite rooms (which had been vacated). Even on our last day the pump would have problems but I when I called out from my shower to the staff member in the hall, he immediately ran to turn it back on and the hot water was no longer just dribbling out of the shower head. The first night I spent in a lower bunk and each time my son moved in the bed above me a musty odor would be released. When I slept in the other free bed I did not have to smell that. Also, the room would get very musty when the skylight window was closed - must have been that mattress from that upper bunk. Better lighting for the individual bunks would also be a plus, since the one overhead light fixture made it hard to read at night without bothering others. Loved the WiFi connection. All in all, this was the best hostel of our trip to Ireland.
