Agreed: Location, great. Price was reasonable, etc. but be very careful if they offer you their "B and B" which is apparently, just their house down the street with what appears to be one guest room (maybe 2?). Their kids are extremely loud (yelling, crying, running, playing TV/Music) Also seemed to be banging around all day long (not sure if kids or something else). Kids play area is outside your window. Freezing cold room. Small room. Sink and shower seem to be installed by gnomes. You cant use the sink as you normally would for fear of crashing your head into the shelf above it. The shower can not be turned on, or hotter/colder without awkwardly reaching around the glass door and getting your hand soaked or burned. Maid service did not show up until about 5 at which it was too late to clean our room. And when she came in she literally just "came in" the room without knocking or announcing. Just stay at the hotel if they offer you the B and B room. I'm guessing thats nicer but I can't say for sure.

Our last trip into Killarney we booked into another b&b but didn't like it at all. Luckily I remembered reading about the Fairview on the internet and went straight up Plunkett St. to find it. James the owner was quite cordial and we rented a room in the back with a double and single bed. The rooms there were beautiful and always well cleaned. Tommy Reagan in the breakfast area is the most accomplished waiter in Killarney. Tommy has waited on many of the celebrities and heads of state at the Great Southern before coming out of retirement to staff the breakfast area each morning. He knows what you want before you do practically. The Fairview is well located in Killarney town within easy walking distance to all restaurants and nightlife Killarney is noted for.
We always enjoyed the Flesk at the foot of Plunkett Street for a good down home dinner. We can't wait for our next trip to Killarney to revisit the Fairview. Sheila and Michael Solwecki

My partner booked this for a valentine's day surprise. While it's an upper standard guesthouse, my partner was disappointed when we arrived. He paid extra to have a Jazuzzi in the room (beware of this as it's only a jazuzzi bath in the bathroom!!) it's like a nice 3 star hotel, but a little bit pricey for what it is. One cool thing was having an ice making machine on the 3rd floor to fill up your ice bucket in your room! Wouldnt have liked to be the room next to the ice machine though as it was very noisey!!!

I had a horrible experience when I stayed in the Fairview Guest House. Firstly, we were not allowed to check in until 6.00 in the evening (I have never experienced such a late check in before).

We stayed two nights there and when I went to check out and pay in the morning the lady at the reception, who I believe to be the owner, said she would like to raise the issue of noise with myself and the other people staying with me. I told her that the people I was with were quiet but that there was a room upstairs from us who were having a singsong until all hours of the morning.

The owner had my laser card in her posession at this time and went over to the machine and said she was charging all of us 20 euro extra per person for noise levels. I have never heard anything like this in my life. I asked her not to put through my card details as I wanted to ring my other friends who were staying in the room with me to come to reception to discuss it with her but she proceeded to key in and process my card for extra money over noise.

(During this time a lady who I did not know came to reception to check out and she was trying to charge her an extra 20 euro to put her breakfast outside the door of her room. (20 euro to do this!!!) This lady disputed the charge and thought it was ridiculous.)

I told the receptionist that I did not give her authority to put through the transaction but she said she did not care. I went over to the machine to take out my laser card before I was charged and this lady started to push me away from the machine and started hitting my arm.

I work in a Solicitors office and what she was doing was illegal.

1. charging my card without my consent or authority
2. laying her hands on me (I have scratches from her nails on my wrist!)

My friends had joined me at the reception before this happened and witnessed the whole thing. They were shocked at the actions of this lady. She shouted at us that we were all on drugs and that she was calling the guards.

I told her that I would prefer if she called the guards so they could sort it out. She was not expecting me to agree with them being called and immediately backed down.

My card would not go through because she had put it through and cancelled it 7 times. I asked my friend could I have a loan of the money and then she said that we probably did not have money anyway.

I have never experienced such a thing in my life. I was shocked and shaking by the time I left.

I would recommend everyone to avoid staying at this guest house. Their customer service leaves alot to be desired!!
