Oaklawn is situated at one of the entrances to Killarney National Park and 5 min. walk from town center. 10 min. walk to outlet shopping mall.
From outside the house looks perfect with rockgardens and flowers surrounding it. You see a terrace and a small tower which makes the house look like a tiny castle.
Inside it is a typical bed and breakfast house with several rooms, carpeted floors in the hallways, a dining room and private rooms of the owners. In the first floor, where most of the rooms are situated, you find a nice lounge with comfortable chairs and books as well as a coffee corner where you can brew your coffee.
The room was a bit plain. It was all in light wood – wooden floor, doors, wardrobe. Very rustic feeling it gives. We had a twin room – with a small double bed and a single bed, very clean sheets. The double bed though was a bit dated and made squeaking noises. This was a minus. Though I still think the matrasses were not too dated, not sagging. The room was ok, not more. We even had a small dressing table with mirror in there – but no chair in this room!. What we also missed was a place/ crotchet to put some wet sweaters on. The only place you could put it in was into the bathroom or into the wardrobe.
Heating was turned on for some hours. Our room was not very spacious and lights not very bright.
Our bathroom was tiny with sink, toilet and shower. Shower was spacious inside with new glass doors. Toilet had some stains. The room overall was clean but had cracks in the wall and windows and shower had a bit of mold due to the always wet weather. Small TV with 3 channels in room, no hair dryer. Paid 70 Euro per night.
There is free parking which is perfect as you have to pay everywhere in town.
The proprietor is a nice lady though not overwhelmingly friendly. She cooks breakfast to order and tries to make you feel comfortable. If you want porridge tell her the night before otherwise you will not get one.
