“Very Good”

Kingfisher Lodge

13 May 2007

Kingfisher Lodge is a very well presented guesthouse in a very good location for exploring all that Killarney has to offer.

Ann & Donal are helpful without being intrusive, and service both at reception and during breakfast was very efficient.

Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of choice, including pancakes with bananas which made a very welcome change for my vegetarian wife.

The room was large with everything you needed including a very powerful shower.

Situated on a main N road, traffic noise was not a problem at all. Plenty of parking is very handy also. Town is a 5 minute stroll away.

The only thing stopping me from giving Kingfisher Lodge 5 stars was the location of our room. Situated over the breakfast room, the noise carried so much that it felt like we were actually waking up in there rather than our own bedroom. Luckily we weren't on the kind of holiday that meant we could lay in, but still, it was a tad annoying.

But all in all, a lovely stay in a lovely house. It's what we wanted, and it's what we got.

Well, I am back from sunny (yes, sunny) Ireland and what a time we had. We so enjoyed it and are seriously contemplating our return. The Dingle Penninsula was breathtaking as was The Ring of Kerry of course, what a fantastic country.

Kingfisher Lodge was perfect, immaculate rooms with a lovely shower room ensuite. The proprietors Ann and Donal were helpful but not pushy and their advice when asked for, was sound. Breakfast was plentiful and varied - a great start to the day.

Within 3 minutes walking time we were in Killarney town centre and all that it has to offer - which is plenty. Live music was what we most wanted to see and that was exactly what we got, the first night was spent at the Killarney Grand and the remaining two nights were spent at Danny Manns - live music from 9.30pm and we saw two wonderful acts.

Our daughter decided against coming with us - she had a party to go to which was far more important - and so stayed with a friend. If she had been with us it may have marred the evenings entertainment somewhat as children are to be out of the bar by 9pm and there appears to be little flexibility in this rule.

It is my 40th birthday in May and we were seriously considering heading to Nashiville - country music has been a passion of mine for many years (shameful I know) - but County Kerry was so wonderful we are contemplating a second visit. However, I am aware that there are likely many more beautiful places in Ireland so any further ideas would be greatly appreciated - perhaps Limerick or Tipperary (yes, I know it's a long way to Tipperary but it's got to be worth a look!!!)

We found the Kingfisher through Trip Advisor and we had a great 3-day stay in early September. The location was convenient, the room was comfortable, roomy and well decorated, and the hosts were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed being able to leave the car parked and walk to the town center. Ann gave us good restaurant suggestions and a very enjoyable pub (where we ran into Donel and had a very enjoyable visit). They helped with day tour arrangements and helped us arrange to get our laundry done. We enjoyed the ample breakfasts as well. Ann and Donel helped make our stay in Killarney one of the best parts of our Ireland trip.
