My husband and I vacationed in Ireland last year and were put up in the Brookfield House as part of a Ring of Kerry sightseeing package offered by Railtours Ireland out of Dublin. It was the WORST lodging experience either of us ever had! The owners of the split level ranch house merely took the bedrooms, put a lock on the door, converted narrow bedroom closet to a bathroom, put a sticky note with a room number on the bedrooms door and called it a B&B. We were given the 'honeymoon suite'. It was a double bed placed right up against the wall with no room at the foot of the bed. Once in bed, the person on the inside against the wall had to crawl over the other one for a midnight bathroom visit. The sheets were old, stained and pilled. You could note even turn around in the shower or bathroom because it was so narrow. There is no TV, radio, phone or alarm in the room. The bathroom had no soap, shampoo, etc. The decor was simply atrocious! The overhead light had a round orange accordian paper shade...like you find in the dollar stores. There was no wastepaper basket and we even found garbage in the corner (crumpled up papers) from the previous guests. Once you are checked in, the innkeepers disappeared and took the phone in the common entry area with them so there was no way to contact them for anything...you're stuck. Two other ladies on our tour staying in another room found they had no running water. With no way to contact the innkeepers, they went downstairs in the common TV room and found a small carafe with enough water to hand bath (their room had a tiny bar of used soap) but not enough wash their hair. If you're thinking of staying at the Brookfield House, think twice! (see attached pictures)
