We felt very fortunate to have been able to stay at The Meadows. Kathleen is an impeccable hostess who has paid so much attention to detail. Our prettily decorated room, overlooking the lovely landscaped yard, was very comfortable. The breakfasts were unmatched by any we had during our twelve days in Ireland, and we had some very good ones! Kathleen presented us with a menu the night before with several delectable choices. Her table settings probably could have matched those of a four-star restaurant!

The B&B, set in a very nice neighborhood, is about a 15-20 minute walk to Kilkenny center. There are restaurants and shops along the way as well as St. Canice's Cathedral, a church worth visiting, and the Rothe House.

Kathleen and husband Paddy helped us find lodging for the next night and told us about the towns we planned to visit. Because we were traveling by bus, they helped us with transportation to and from the station. By the time we left, we felt like family because of their sincere interest and care.

Kathleen and Paddy Ryan were the most gracious hosts of our Ireland trip. They have a clean, smoke-free, warm and friendly home, lovely garden and Kathleen was very welcoming upon arrival. Sadly, our stay at this lovely B&B was near the end of our trip and not at the beginning. We arrived to tea and freshly made, warm shortbread with a greeting as if we just arrived to visit family. The house iis in a quiet neighborhood, easy to find with the map the B&B provides, and is a nice 15 minute walk or short taxi ride into Kilkenny City. Also a 5 minute walk from the B&B will take you to a friendly local pub, the Troysgate without the chaos of the city. On our way into town, we enjoyed a walk along a lovely path along the river with Kilkenny Castle in view over the water - Beautiful! NOTE: if you are not into the young adult party and drink fest, avoid weekends in Kilkenny City as one chap stated when we commented on the drunkeness at 7 pm in the evening - "It's Madness really" - Please take caution when walking home late night - It is a city afterall! But, A lovely city with amazing architecture - but weekends are too crazy for this 42 year old - mellow pubs are more my style and the pub closer to the B&B was perfect! Staying at the Meadows made the craziness of the City enjoyable. We had the best homemade Irish breakfast at the Meadows and the best on the entire trip! Fresh cut fruit, delicious full Irish breakfast, made with care! After breakfast, Paddy spoke with us attentively and kindly, sharing with us recommendations on routes, places to go, how to get there, etc. He was extremely helpful with making plans for our last day and half of the trip. I recommend this B&B to anyone who wishes to venture into Kilkenny. You will be pleased by this lovely B&B!! My only regret is I didn't write this review sooner.

    • Liked — warm, friendly, clean, Quiet, B&B - If you want a B&B that epitomizes friendly Irish - stay at the Meadows! - If you are a huge partier - find something closer to town.
    • Disliked — nothing - the B&B iteslf was great - It was Kilkenny City that wasn't my "cup of tea" on a weekend.
