We were taking a 7 day self driving tour of Ireland and stayed at the Dunromin b+b in Kilkenny 4 and 5th day. We drove from Dingle to Kilkenny with a side adventure in Killarney National Park 1st before arriving in Kilkenny. Val and Tom, owners were the best. AAA+++. They were so friendly and helpful during our stay. They have maps available and helped us plan a nice scenic route to see the Rock of Cashel which is close by. The house is not exactly in the downtown area and does require walking several blocks to the downtown area where the pubs and castle are located but the walk was very easy for us. (10 minute walk) Kilkenny is somewhat a small town but very lively with around 78 pubs. Lots of shopping, dining and the pubs were great but the Kilkenny Castle was beautiful to see and tour.

First things first: Val is a natural for a B&B owner! From the minute you meet her until you drive away, she makes it her job to provide you with the best experience in her home and in Kilkenny. She is so warm and friendly, and the B&B itself is just what I wanted and expected (though others don't live up to my expectation). We didn't get a chance to meet Tom since he was on a golf trip, but Val gave us so much of her time with providing maps and tips on the best pubs and restaurants, that we couldn't have asked for more.

She gave us our choice of room, and I picked one at the front of the house because I liked the decor better, and there was absolutely no noise from the road. The bed was very comfortable as well. She asked us to come back downstairs for tea and biscuits as soon as we were settled, which was just what we needed. Val's provided a lovely and thoughtful assortment of books on Ireland throughout the house, and as others have already said, she also provides refreshments available whenever you wish, and offers to call to book reservations or, in our case, tickets for the comedy festival which was happening in Kilkenny the weekend we visited.

Val's breakfast the next day was better than I expected: beautifully served, wonderful selections, and she made a point of introducing everyone in the breakfast room so we could have a relaxing chat. She really is an amazing B&B owner, and I highly recommend staying with her at Dunromin if you have a chance.

During our trip to Ireland, we stayed in five B&Bs and this one was outstanding in large part because Val and Tom are truly kind people who made us feel totally welcome and gave us every assistance imaginable. The B&B is decorated in a cottage style, with beautiful and interesting antiques. The rooms we had were large, clean and comfortable. The walk to the city center is only 10 minutes. Although the B&B is on a major road, the traffic noise was not a problem in the back rooms we had. The breakfasts were top notch. But the most memorable and enjoyable aspect of Dunromin is the warmth and graciousness of Val and Tom.

“Wonderful Experience”

Dunromin B&B

30 Oct 2007

Val and Tom are true professionals. Our room was large and roomy. They made us feel at home the minute we arrived. Helped us up with our luggage. At breakfast, they made a point to introduce everyone. I had a special dietary need and Val didn't hesitate one moment to fix something I could eat. After breakfast, Tom, treated us to songs in their living room. Great location. Beautiful walk to town; only 10 minutes. Nicest B&B in our 7 day stay in Ireland. Definately would go back again.

They both were so accommodating; providing driving instructions and eating recommendations.

We left hugging them both. It was such a wonderful experience.

We arrived at 10 am after a red eye flight, when check in was 4-6pm. Val and Tom were so accommodating and friendly. They gave us a little breakfast and sat with us for a few minutes. We went into town for a few hours and when we came back our room was ready for us. The breakfast was great and the room had everything we needed! We would highly recommend the Dunromin!
