We stayed here on our last night before heading up to Dublin to fly home. Had been to Dublin, Galway and Dingle, each for 3 nights. This was by far the worse night we had, and ended our trip on a very sour note. I have never written a review, but use this site all the time, and this was the first time I wondered whether the reviewers I read were in the same hotel! It was dark, old, and very very stark and basic. Clean, but so lacking in basic cosmetic upkeep that it felt dirty. Scratches and stains everywhere, no cheery amenities. All that for the most expensive room we paid for all 10 days -- including Dublin! Given the lovely guesthouses we stayed at for less money, this was very overpriced. And the part of town was marginal!

Reading the other reviews, I can't help but feel like I was in an alternate universe or something. The outside of the hotel looks nice, and the breakfast was decent. That's about all I can say that was positive about the Kilkenny Inn Hotel. I arrived at the hotel and went into the car park and was afraid. It was so dark and isolated it was the only time I was really afraid to be by myself at night, and I live in NYC! The woman at the desk was very nice and friendly although the man looked like he couldn't be bothered. I thought the lobby was decent looking, nothing to write home about, but ok. As I got off the elevator, the smell immediately hit me. The air was sticky, musty and had a horrible moldy smell to it. It was only worse when I went through the fire doors to my wing of the floor where it was worse. i entered the room and if it was even possible, the smell was worse. There is no decor whatsoever in the room and the carpet was filthy with what looked like old stuck gum and spots and dirt everywhere. The bathroom was tidy but not immaculate. There was absolutely no water pressure when I showered and there were stray hairs on the bath mat when I opened it up to place in the shower. I was beyond skeved out and this is by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I've stayed at hostels that were cleaner!

My husband and I stayed at the Kilkenny Inn for one night in September, 2009. The hotel provides decent value for the money, the rooms are clean, but the hotel lacks personality. If you like staying at Holiday Inns, you will like this hotel.

I stayed here for one night with my husband in September. The hotel is in a perfect location, it is well decorated and clean. The pub/restaurant attached to the hotel is handy and the food is good. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. It looked as though the hotel had been remodeled and updated in the last few years. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Kilkenny. The breakfast offered at the hotel was the best we had in Ireland!
