We got off the bus and thankfully right across the street was the Railway Hotel. It was a holiday time, but there was aroom. It was just what I would think a vintage Irish hotel would be. The food was GREAT, the dining room very nice as was the waitress, and the young lady at the desk could not have been any nicer. A great experience for two Americans who had not been to Ireland before.

I stayed in Railway hotel three times recently with my daughter. We found the hotel staff to be courteous and helpful during our stay. Breakfast was served promptly and was delicious. I would recommend this hotel to all types of travellers whether couples, families, singles or disabled. As an M.S. sufferer I appreciated being treated as an individual without being patronised.

I spent one night in this hotel. Honestly, I went all evening out of the room walking around Limerick in order to do something better to stay in.
Railway Hotel is dirty, attention is not the best, the place is dark and I thing dangerous (I saw several drunken people around entrance door), and typical breakfast, no more.
Ah, and not so cheap! my b&b the night before was better and cheaper (but in Galway, not in Limerick).

I had a lovely 3 night stay at this hotel. The room cost me 46 euros per night for a single with private shower/toilet, and I thought it was really good value. The room was a double really; double bed, tv, loads and loads of fresh clean towels, coffee & tea making facilities in the room. All the staff were friendly and helpful, but not nosey and pushy. Just right. When I had a problem with my radiator (it was on in the heatwave!) somebody sorted it straight away. Of course, the location is perfect. Cross the road and you are at the train and bus stations. The hotel is the first thing you see when you arrive on the airport bus! It is clean, but not sterile-looking. Homely, but like a hotel should be. The bar is fab. If I had to say one negative thing it would be that the bar gets rowdy at night! But it's fun! Just take ear-plugs. The room was cleaned daily; soap. towels, loo-roll, etc, all replaced. As for the breakfast; exceptional!!!! Cereal, juice, tea/coffee, full cooked bacon, egg, sausage, etc, then toast & marmalade too!! I didn't need to eat again all day. But if you do, the bar & restaurant meals looked & smelt great. The service in the restaurant was perfect at all times too. I'd stay again; wouldn't bother looking for another hotel in Limerick!

We self-catered our holiday. We chose The Railway Hotel because of cost, convenience and proximity to both Shannon Airport and the Railway station to our final destination in Cork. We were dirty, tired and just wanted to get into our rooms. The front desk person (one of our first personal contacts in Ireland) was very helpful. She actually suggested changing a room (for no added expense) so that we had a lighter breezier room that had a better view and was more comfortable to sleep in. The cleaning staff was also very friendly. The room itself was comfortably (not lavishly) appointed. The facility could use some updating but then again so could the Parthenon. The hotel is a cute reminder of bygone times that I would pray is maintained with any upgrade. I would definitely go again.
