We stayed here at the end of our week long visit to Ireland. While the house is lovely, I felt like I was an "invader". Sort of like, "here's your room, good by". "stand here and ring the bell if you need assistance" Later found out the owner had gone through a nasty divorce. While the house is lovely, I felt like I was more in a hotel than a "HOME". Lots of dogs, another guest brought a dog and the owner was dog sitting for her. If you like dogs, this is the house for you

“A Sweet & Personal Way to Begin Our Ireland Trip!”

Avondoyle Country Home Bed and Breakfast

When we traveled to Ireland 15 years ago, we stayed in a hotel on our first night after arriving. We realized then that there was no need to go to hotels with so many Bed and Breakfasts available. And now that the internet opens up the possibilities of searching and booking online, going to a B&B for our first few nights made sense.

For our August 2006 Ireland trip, we visited TripAdvisor to check out the many bed & breakfasts that now have websites. We were fortunate to find the Avondoyle Country Home!

The Avondoyle Country Home is off the beaten track. Once found, it truly feels like a quiet get-away in Limerick. It really took no time to head into town and feel your way around for pubs (dinner fare) or shopping.

For traveling, this location is a great base of operation for day trips for Cliffs of Moher and Rock of Cashel. There was a great family room for us while traveling with our two children, 16 and 13 years old. We felt the hostess of Avondoyle, Evelyn Moore, was very warm and attentive to our needs.

Prior to our trip, Evelyn always promptly responded to our emails. She may be reached via email after you visit her website. We contacted her via email to request information on availability of rooms for our stay. We then contacted her via phone, (number found on website), to reserve the room for our stay. A map to her property can also be found on her website.

Food at Evelyn's was delicious! Don't be afraid to tell you'd like a variation of the full Irish breakfast. She'll make scrambled eggs for you (or your children), if that's what you prefer.

Once you arrive, Evelyn will be more than happy to discuss routes to the activities you have planned for touring. You'll be sure to enjoy this part of your stay in Limerick!

We stayed here in August 2005 for two nights. We will definately revisit this B&B when we return to Ireland in the future, but we will stay longer!
Evelyn was a lovely hostess with beautiful home and garden. Our room was very comfortable and we had a very restfull sleep while in Avondoyle. The breakfast was large and wonderfully presented. We enjoyed our visit even though it was brief.

I stayed in a B&B in Limerick called Avondoyle Country Home. It's located in a lovely quiet country area called Ballyclough about 5mins by car from the city. I stayed there for 5 days using it as a base to visit other parts of the country such as Killarney and Galway. I didn't spend much time in the city as there is not much touristy things to do there other than in the evenings when it's good for restaurants and bars. There's a great pub there which does traditional irish music every night called Dolan's warehouse - I recommend the Guinness there too! I also went to Bunratty Castle, the Clare Glens, Dromore Lake, Craiganowen and Curraghchase, which were all brilliant and within 30mins of Limerick. I did not enjoy King John's Castle in the City, I would not recommend it as there was very little to see there. The owner of the B&B was really helpful in advising us what to see and do esp areas off the beaten tourist track. Shes really firendly and very chatty! The breakfast was enormous and had a great selection and the rooms were lovely. The only complaint I have about Avondoyle is that it is not on a local bus route so you would really need a car/bike if you were going to stay there. All in all Limerick is a great place to use as a base for visiting other areas as it is very central and there are plenty of places within 10-30 mins of it to visit if you don't feel like traveling far. The city itself is good for shopping and eating but that's about it.
