I stayed in a B&B in Limerick called Avondoyle Country Home. It's located in a lovely quiet country area called Ballyclough about 5mins by car from the city. I stayed there for 5 days using it as a base to visit other parts of the country such as Killarney and Galway. I didn't spend much time in the city as there is not much touristy things to do there other than in the evenings when it's good for restaurants and bars. There's a great pub there which does traditional irish music every night called Dolan's warehouse - I recommend the Guinness there too! I also went to Bunratty Castle, the Clare Glens, Dromore Lake, Craiganowen and Curraghchase, which were all brilliant and within 30mins of Limerick. I did not enjoy King John's Castle in the City, I would not recommend it as there was very little to see there. The owner of the B&B was really helpful in advising us what to see and do esp areas off the beaten tourist track. Shes really firendly and very chatty! The breakfast was enormous and had a great selection and the rooms were lovely. The only complaint I have about Avondoyle is that it is not on a local bus route so you would really need a car/bike if you were going to stay there. All in all Limerick is a great place to use as a base for visiting other areas as it is very central and there are plenty of places within 10-30 mins of it to visit if you don't feel like traveling far. The city itself is good for shopping and eating but that's about it.
