When we drove up to the hotel I thought we had arrived at the wrong "Patrick Punch" as coming from the city centre your first view is of the old Patrick Punch Pub and not of the modern hotel facade shown in all the photos. Having realised we were in the right place we entered the underground car park (handy) and checked in. Staff helpful and polite - chatty if pushed. Reception rather stark - needs those touches that make all the difference. Rooms ok - bit like a travel lodge. Nothing to complain about but nothing to give it the wow factor. Our double room also turned out to be a twin but with the beds pushed together. 15 min walk to the main city centre, so had a drink in the bar on way back. Thought we'd enjoy a last night cocktail - but the bar doesn't have a cocktail menu. Overall - ok, does what it says on the tin but not a lot else.

Thank you for your comments. We are in the process of producing a cocktail menu for our bar and this should be ready in the next couple of months. Kind regards, Amanda Cronin

“Below average”

Patrick Punch's Hotel

7 Apr 2008

While recently at the University of Limerick I was booked into Patrick Punches. Sadly my regular hotel was fully booked out.

From my "welcome" to my departure it all felt very cold. The reception area is trying to be unique yet looks like 75% of the dozens of hotels I have stayed in within the last 12 months. Someone who tried to be different designed a hotel that's about 10 years behind the times.

The bedroom was small, cramped and had an odd smell of mould from it. I had asked for a room as close to the main door as possible due to a healing fractured leg yet I was given a room at what felt like the very end of the hotel. When I tried 3 times to ring reception to change room I received no answer. From then on I decided to avoid reception at all costs. The overly fake smiles made me want to get back out to the real world as soon as possible.
The marble effect floor seemed grubby and left a coating of dust on my shoes plus the lift was never once cleaned. My bedroom needed a major spring clean plus 2 of my towels had questionable stains. I don't think the hotel is old but it needs a good deep clean.

I must say the bar was lovely with very friendly service. I'm not sure if it's open to the public but if it is give it a go without setting foot in the hotel. I didn't try the leisure center so I can't comment. Breakfast was a bit on the skimpy side but served with a smile and quite delicious.

All in all I won't be back to stay in the hotel but if I found myself in the area I would certainly pop into the bar.

I'm not one for giving harsh reviews unless deserved but I feel Patrick Punches didn't live up to what I had been lead to believe I'm sure it suits a certain standard of clientele.

Your comments about the hotel have been noted & I thank you for them. However our rooms have never been described as cramped as all rooms in Patrick Punchs are quite large so I am quite surprise that you felt like that, the smiles at the desk are never fake this I can promise you. If you had requested another room the front desk would have gladly obliged. I apologise for the stains on the towels but can assure you they were clean, sometimes stains unfortunately are left by the wringing machine.
Thank you again for taking the time to write about the hotel.
Kind regards, Amanda Cronin

Excellent hotel- easy to find and convenient to Limerick centre.
The hotel is well situated, straight up main O'Connell St, onto O'Connell Ave. Slightly shabby from outside- but don't be put off- adds to the wonderful charm! Room 116 was clean, quiet and v. comfortable. Stayed 2 nights! Food in bar was great- and also really relaxing bar to spend a few hours! Staff were great, friendly and good at the jobs. Highly recommend. We will return to Patrick Punches next time in Limerick!

“Lovely to Stay In”

Patrick Punch's Hotel

27 Mar 2008

I am a regular visitor to Patrick Punch's Hotel, and I, and my colleages are always treated with a welcome smile at the end of a hard day's work (something that all those who travel for work enjoy). Amanda Cronin and the staff are always extremely helpful and obliging. The rooms are comfortable, however the fan in the bathroom during the night is a bit off putting and the designer chairs (while very nice) are not terribly comfortable for a weary traveller wanting to relax in front of the t.v. for a while. The bar and restaurant staff more than make up for this, and the food in the bar and restaurant is excellent. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who travels on their own, and indeed any traveller would enjoy a stay. I am however still waiting for Mr Clooney at appear. Sandra S.

Dear 'Mrs Clooney', Thank you for your kind words about Patrick Punchs Hotel. The fans are an issue in certain rooms and this is being addressed so hopefully the next time you stay with us you won't even notice they are on. As for George he has promised to stop being so illusive and will make an appearance on your next visit!!! I do hope to see you again in the hotel soon. Kind regards, Amanda

“Triple Crown Weekend- The Party from Porth”

Patrick Punch's Hotel

14 Mar 2008

Our stay at Patrick Punchs was at the least superb. The manager and all his staff have to be commended for the outstanding welcome and hospitality afforded to us. Nothing was to much trouble during a very busy weekend. All areas of the hotel were kept clean and tidy, the breakfast more than ample. The leisure centre a perfect area to get over the excesses of the night before! The bar staff also made the bar a place to relax (unlike many 4* hotels).
We will be back.
