Stayed at Knockranny with family over the May bank holiday weekend and what a lovely experience it was. Having stayed at quite a few 4-5 star hotels for different events over the last year we generally left feeling out of pocket and disappointed ,this was not the case at Knockranny. Yes the rate was a little high in the current climate as their was only a grand deluxe room available but you definately got what you paid for .
Check in was friendly and informative, nice local chatty staff. The room was a bit confusing to find at first and it was a bit of a trek from reception to be fair but upon entering you were delighted to find luxury awaiting. Huge room, lovely crisp linen, jacuzzi bath and fantastic shower. Also a decent hairdryer and not the wall held ones which was good.
The barman ( american ) was attentive, chatty and whilst on occasion a bit run off his feet trying to serve or at least acknowledge everyone he was excellent.
Their were two weddings on that weekend but it never bothered other hotel guests. I imagine most wedding guests were on one floor as we certainly were never bothered by late nite wedding guests at any time, which was much appreciated and cleverly thought out by the management if this was advance planning.
The restaurant was beautiful , what a view, spectacular. Food was delicious, service friendly and timely. Music in the bar afterwards I might question, whilst the lady sang beautifully it is a bit small for music and personally I prefer to relax and chat. We did have a general feeling in one part of the bar of being in a nursing home given the square leather coloured chairs - very out of charachter for the hotel and looked a bit strange, could do with an update.
Breakfast again was a very good experience, in particular on the Saturday but a little bit crazy on the Sunday, lots of staff on duty but I think every guest arrived within 30 minutes of each other and with a large wedding also I imagine the kitchen was under a bit of strain but we relaxed and enjoyed all the same. very good selection available .
Hoping to return soon and avail of some of the great special offers , would definatley say it beats some of Dublins 4 and 5 star hotels at the moment. well done Knockranny house hotel.
