The road leading up to the hotel was not great. On arrival at the hotel there was nobody at reception.We had to dial 0 on the phone to talk to one of the staff.Room was very dark and depressing!There was no evening dinner on sunday night,we were informed that only bar food was available.In the guest book we were informed that broadband was available in our room and cables were available at reception,but when we went to reception no cables were available.Overall we didnt enjoy our stay.Wont be returning.

We booked a twin room, and were rather disappointed with it. We checked out a day earlier than expected.

This is a fantastic hotel, and definitely recommended for anyone wanting to chill out and relax. The staff are extremely helpful, accomodating and professional and the hotel has a peaceful feel to it. The rooms are large and very comfortable and the food in the restaurant is out of this world. The lounge and libary areas are great for relaxing, and the terrace area makes outdoor dining a great experience........ I will definitely be returning to this hotel.

This tastefully decorated boutique hotel has everything you could want for a relaxing serene break away from it all. Having just spent the weekend in Athenaeum I would highly recommend it to fellow travellers. The sumptuous decor and attention to detail, from the Grand Piano in the reception hall to the owner-designed custom made carpets, all give this hotel a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were at all times attentive, friendly and accommodating and the presence of the hotel owners, Stan and Mailo, throughout our stay leant a homely relaxed feel to the experience. Instead of going into town at night we decided to eat at Zak's restaurant with a broad menu to suit all tastes. The food was delicious and delivered to our table promptly. The views from the restaurant make this place feel like a country retreat instead of just a mere 5 minute drive from the city centre. There is live music at the weekends and I discovered during the stay that most of the amazing paintings hanging on the walls were actually done by the owner Mailo. All these little personalisations and the wonderful staff make this hotel one of the very best I have visited in Ireland. If you are looking for an out-of-the way haven of tranquillity and luxury, this is the place to visit.
