We've been to the Bear and Swan a few times before, and found the food to be really good and the establishment upmarket. We went back today because we couldn't get a table in the pony and trap. It seems to have not gone 'down market' but has lost its edge. The front of house seemed to be very young and not even remotely concerned by a screaming baby, which seriously affected our trip. The pub is not cheap, and you do not expect such a creche atmosphere. Irritatingly the child's parents were rude by failing to do anything about this, and the front of house staff took no action.
The roasts were above average - reasonable for the money but we had to wait a long time for our food.
We're unlikely to go again to be honest, as there are better roasts available and we really do not want to eat with *screaming* children 2 meters from us.
Obviously the *children* argument is a tricky one at the best of times, but this was loud and overbearing.
