We (family of four) stayed for a single night as we were attending a wedding at nearby Ripley Castle.
We contacted the hotel directly and were offered a large family room at GBP 149 per night including breakfast.
I was a little wary about this hotel after reading the reviews here, but I must admit we were all pleasantly surprised. The hotel stands high up overlooking the town of Harrogate (5 minutes walk away) in beautiful and spacious grounds. It's a grand old lady of a hotel, tall ceilings, massive public rooms and enormous corridors with a huge staircase running through the centre of the hotel.
Our room was huge, the bathroom alone was about the size of our entire suite at the Leeds Hilton, which we had just left. We had a lage double bed and two pull out sofa sleepers and there was still room to play a five a side football game. Sure, it was a little shabby in places, but nothing really serious.
Breakfast was good, there was a queue to get in so they ought really to extend the 10am closure time at weekends, but once we were in it was above average.
We used the leisure centre pool which was also pretty good - larger than the average hotel pool, although the fitness centre was fairly small.
Service was first class. The front desk and porters couldn't do enough for us. Car parking at £3.00 per day was also a bargain.
I'd stay here again now I know that the rooms aren't SO bad and the location of the hotel and service are so good.

Hotel is very shabby and run down. I am a member of the Hotel Groups Leisure club and have stayed at several of the groups hotels and this is in a worse condition than any of the others I have stayed in (although the Ship in Brighton runs it close)
Positives first. Food in the restaurant is of good standard in the evening and the service is very efficient although there is no atmosphere due to the lighting and size. Breakfast is standard breakfast you would find in any hotel, service again very good.
Staff - In the main the staff are excellent and in part make up for the poor quality of the hotel.
Rooms - The unfurbished rooms are similar to a Blackpool B&B, shabby and cheap. We had to insist on a refurbished room after being offered three old rooms. Location- Very handy for the center of Harrogate and parking very good at £3 per night.
Overall the hotel lets the staff down rather than the other way round. Unless you are guaranteed one of the refurbished rooms just don't bother, pick another hotel and save the money. .
We came back from the Majestic today after our 2 night stay.
I have to say i was very apprehensive as if you see my other reviews on there other hotels they are not fantastic.
However this was a complementary stay we received as we had received such poor service at one of the other hotels, i must admit i was taken back by this hotel.
Upon arrival - i must admit it looks dated and in need of some TLC but inside its very clean and in good condition considering how old the hotel is and they are currently refurbishing it!
we were lucky to get in room 240 a suite - which i must admit is absolutely gorgeous - a massive bedroom and a lounge with a 2 sofas and basically just massive - so relaxing it did not feel like being in a hotel, we were very reluctant to leave!
The breakfast and evening meals were very nice - the menu at night does change each evening - the staff are very attentive.
The Orchard Rooms - treatment area looks very nice - we did not use the facilities.
We also used the Regency Bar which is very nice and relaxing - a bit pricey - especially when you compare it to the Witherspoons Pub just up the road in the town - if you know of the Witherspoons chain im sure you'll agree they are cheap, and infact is nice inside - even with an outside seating area at the back of the pub - great when the suns out!
The centre of Harrogate is within walking distance, a bit of hill to get up but generally a very Nice town with the famous Bettys tea rooms - a very very busy place!!
we also ventered out to the city of York - about 19 miles away - use the Park and ride service £2pp return for the bus and free parking - as you cannot park or drive in the city - its absolutely great - a really nice city!!
If you are there longer there are lots of other great places to get to that unfortunetly we did not have time for but Leeds is about 18 miles away and there is also a Shopping outlet not far!
Overall we were so relaxed and very reluctant to leave!!!

Arrived at hotel looks very grand until you step inside. Massive hotel, large rooms but tiny lifts. We were on fourth floor and had a few corridors to get to room. Room large but a bit unclean and desperately needing decorated. Very expensive for what you get. One thing is that the staff were lovely and I could imagine the cost of doing up the whole hotel would be staggering shame really as if it was looked after it would be stunning.
