“After a bad experience at another hotel, this worked out ok”

The Studley Hotel

20 Apr 2008

Our booking at the Bijou (see our review for them) had 'got lost' so they referred us to the Studley. We were feeling unhappy and stress levels were high when we arrived at the reception area of this hotel. The welcome we received and the efficiency immediately reduced the levels which was great. The main part of the hotel, bar and restaurant are all very pleasant. The downside is that the rooms are 'tired' and the ensuite very cramped. However, being in the 'any port in a storm' position, this workd out well. Parking is very tight and can only accomadate about 15 cars - however, if you do have to park on the road, they will provide the appropriate permit so there's no need to worry.

“Nice find”

The Studley Hotel

27 Feb 2008

We stayed at this hotel for 9 nights on a business trip. We booked a large superior room, which was very nice (recently updated) with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was unfortunately a little disappointment, as the bath was small, the shower was over the bath, it was a struggle for my husband to negotiate, with the loo being directly where you would normally get out of the shower. Nevertheless, it was clean, tidy, and enough fluffy white towels.
They serve cooked to order breakfasts (apart from one morning where it was buffet). The breakfasts are EXCELLENT - something that we struggle to find as most seem to be buffets, which dont appeal to us.
They have a Thai restaurant here - The Orchid. This is EXCELLENT also. We dined there twice whilst we were there. The price is not excessive either.
The small bar/lounge is quite welcoming, and the staff are efficient and friendly.
The hotel is due to open some brand new rooms, which we got to look at whilst being decorated. These are definately worth booking - big beds, large walk in showers, lovely modern bathrooms with lots of shelf space, plasma TV blah blah!
We have booked this hotel again for our next years trip. My husband is looking forward to the shower! (see above!)
Well worth it in our opinion.

“Pretty good”

The Studley has a great location, quiet but only two or 3 minutes walk in town centre.
Check in was good, all the staff were very helpful and frinedly.
Our room was a good size (we booked an executive double) and had good facilities, it was not what I would call luxurious. But good all the same. Good bathroom, powerful shower and good size. Nice large flat screen TV on wall.
Breakfast was really good, the first day (Saturday morning) we got to choose of a menu and it was delicious! Sunday morning was much busier and there was a buffet style breakfast out which was also very good.
One thing this hotel has which is really outstanding (and worth staying here for!!) is The Orchid restaurant which is a Malaysian/Thai etc Resturant. We ate here on the 2nd night of our stay and it was fantastic. Not to be missed (all the locals knew this too) it was packed, make sure you make a reservation before getting there.

My husband and I enjoyed a great couple of days, the staff were very friendly and helpful, always willing to offer advice and guidance about the area and its attractions. We booked a small double and was supprised at the amount of room we had, very well equiped and very comfortable. The breakfasts were lovely, set us up for the day! We would definately recommend this holiday to friends and family. The hotel is situated within the centre of Harrogate, with everything on its door step.

“Over-priced & lack of customer service”

The Studley Hotel

I paid over £100 for a room which was fairly pokey. It was advertised as a 'double' but the bed was no bigger than a three-quarter. The bathroom was also small (making difficult to actually sit on the toilet!).

Breakfast was 8-10am. We arrived at 9.50am. The man didn't seem happy at the fact (looking at his watch diapprovingly). the cooked breakfast was buffet style and very little was left. The food that we managed to salvage was cold and tough. At 10am on the dot, everything was cleared away immediately. I've never experienced this before. Places are usually a little more chilled and leave things out til 10.30 (especially on a Sunday morning!). Anyone coming for breakfast later than ourselves would've been left with nothing.

When checking out, we were faced with another member of staff who seriously lacked an understanding of customer service. We were wanting to use the gym facilities in a neighbouring hotel (which is included within the price), although the lady at reception was reluctant to give us the relevant passes because 'people forget to bring them back'. Sorry, but not our problem. She then asked me to pay for the room. I advised I had pre-paid through lastminute.com, to which she replied 'no you haven't'!! When she realised she'd made a mistake, she offered no real apology. It's not hard to get customer service wrong - but this woman managed it!

In summary - ok, but no value for money and poor customer service and breakfast. Try the Ruskin over the road which is cheaper and much better.
