I often stay here while working nearby. I'm a Priority Club Platinum member, so I get the free upgrades.
It's a pleasant enough hotel, with the usual HI features. Just don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.
The showers are a bit weak and the dining room (for breakfast) is an odd walk from the lifts on the first floor. It can take some finding if you're not aware.
The parking is fine if the weather's good, but it's a 400yard outdoor walk and can be a real nuisance if it's raining (as it frequently does in Yorkshire). For a £5 price tag, it's expensive. There is a trick to getting free parking, but I'm not going to share it here as it's very limited and I'm felling selfish. But it's not hard to find if you walk around a bit . . .
The breakfast is pretty good, although the staff insist on explaining the layout to you and have a habit of instructing you to take a seat in a clump of tables lost in a big dining room. Sorry guys, but I can recognise tea and coffee without having to have it pointed out to me. The kippers can be a bit hit and miss, but the poached eggs (on request) are very good.
Overall, the staff are pretty good - the front desk has always responded quickly to any queries I've had in my 50+ nights there.
The gym is limited, but fine for a short workout after a hard day at work.
The hotel's generally good value if you can get the 3-day advance rate and I always stay here in Harrogate, mainly for the reliability of the accommodation and service.
