After reading the reviews I was a little worried about this hotel - but on the whole I was pleasantly surprised.
Please note this is now a Folio and not Swallow hotel - and don't confuse with the Swallow St George.
Folio have refurbished the hotel - I guess the designers drawings and promises were fantastic - certainly the overall "look" of the rooms and public areas are good - but the builders must have been on the cheap as execution of the plans looks to be a bit hit and miss.
Parking was dead easy - no problem in getting a space outside. Reception excellent and we had a excellently positioned corner room with double aspect - looking towards Betty's Tea Rooms.
Lifts are small and slow - but there are stairs! Corridors are a little plain and institutional, but our room was quite good and had everything we needed. Bath was a little tatty - and there was little heating in the bathroom. Overall quite comfortable and not as noisy as I had worried about.
Breakfast was OK - small help yourself tinned fruit and cereals. Hot breakfast cooked to order, quality was fair - let down was the coffee - which was cheap instant coffee made in a pot - with the coffee powder showing - poor.
Overall hotel was OK - we got a good price of £75 B&B - not sure I would want to have paid much more - but at that price good value.
Harrogate was brilliant and I loved it - lots of great bars and restaurants - and Betty's - I have fallen in love with their Yorkshire Curd Tart and Cinnamon toast, and best tea for years. Had a great meal at the Harrogate Brasserie Hotel - live jazz and great food and service. This must be a star place for a weekend away, and the Yorkshire hotel is right in the middle of everything.
