We booked a weekend stay, and are now at home catching up with our sleep. Friday evening the weather was warm and still - the consequence was that the drinkers from all the local bars spilled out into the smoking/ outdoor seating areas and the noise was unbearable. On Saturday night however the temperature had dropped considerably and it was pouring down. So, fewer people outside the bars and less noise. If you can predict the weather the answer seems to be that this is a hotel to visit on rainy days. The hotel is typical Travelodge - basic amenities at a reasonable price. It's nice and close to Betty's so we were able to get our afternoon tea on arrival as the cafe stays open until 9.00p.m. The shopping is good, lots of eating places, good beer at The Bell Tavern.

I was worried after reading other reviews about this hotel as we had already booked our stay. After our stay quite frankly the reviews have shown themselves to be negative in the extreme.
I stayed there with 2 girlfriends; 2 of us in our early30s and another in her late 20s. we found the hotel to be far better than we were expecting; clean, comfortable and superbly located in the centre of harrogate. And as for value, we couldn't have asked for any better (only £130 for a family room for 2 nights). If you go expecting 4 star comfort then, yes, you will be disappointed but if that's what you want you have to pay for it. And yes, there is town centre noise but IT IS LOCATED IN THE TOWN CENTE so that shouldn't come as a suprise either!
Super that Weatherspoons is so close for breakfast too!

“loathed this filthy hole”

Travelodge Harrogate

5 Mar 2008

I have to disagree with other reports who have stated that though the noise from the nearby clubs was unbearable the hotel is clean and well appointed. It is not!

To be fair to travelodge if you go into their site and look into details of the hotel they do comment on the noise from the club underneath. But you have to look for this information.

The Hotel is well located in the centre of Harrogate but that is it's only good feature ! We arrived late and we're given a room over the club, so the world moved for us until 2.30am. The bathroom was dirty, the carpet was dirty and the bed lumpy. We asked if we could change rooms? sorry fully booked! OK can you clean the bathroom? yes toilet pan cleaned unfortunately we then notice vomit under the sink! When we go to bed, the matress is lumpy and we roll together What happened to the Travelodge promise of a good nights sleep?

The next morning we notice the reason the room is cold and noisey is that the windows don't fit we can see daylight under the sill allowing noise and cold air through. By now one night to go so put up with it, going home soon.

To all visiting Harrogate unless you are a clubber who is going to stay up until 2.30hrs and throw-up in your room don't stay here. P.S. staff helpful and friendly

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in December. Firstly id like to point out that it is above a few bars and restaurants and I had very little sleep throughout my stay. A quieter room is unavoidable. Secondly, one morning as I was going out I saw human excrement on the floor on the stairs. This shocked my as it’s not the usual behavior you expect in a hotel. The Locality of this hotel is superb, right in the centre. Near the exhibition hall /conference hall etc. The Noise is the only main problem. The rooms are very nice and had no problems, the only thing I think this hotel lacks is a restaurant or some sort of bar area, although breakfast can be purchased to your room, it isn’t varied. You only get a bag with cornflakes, tea or coffee and a croissant. The Staff were very helpful at reception but the £10 charge for an earlier check in seemed a little unnecessary. Overall ,good hotel, good location, Good Rooms....

“Above the local nightclub...”

Travelodge Harrogate

If you are doing a piece of research on the effects of sleep deprivation or the habits of Harrogate's youth (at 3 in the morning) then I would highly recommend this hotel. Unfortunatley I'm middle aged before my time and fancied some good old-fashioned travellodge (black out) sleep. To be fair, if you can sleep through anything there is a really decent vending machine.
