I have recently visited Harrogate and stayed at the West Park Hotel. I was slightly dubest because it has recently been taken over by new management, but i had no need to worry. I stayed in one of their newly refurbished suites which i could not find one fault with. The contempory upto date new look in the room was Fantastic. The kind friendly staff were very helpful in booking me and my husband for a beautiful meal in one of the many restaurants they recommend in Harrogate and the breakfast the next morning freshly cooked no one rushing you just made the stay for us. I would recommend this hotel to anyone its family run and you really can tell the difference to a hotel run by a big franchise.

“Fantastic location and the best Full English for years!”

The West Park Hotel

8 Nov 2007

We booked back in April through the previous owners and when we arrived late on Sunday the room was wrong. The duty receptionist 'Sean', kept his cool and sorted us out with a better room for the same tariff. We had a great week, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the breakfast was fantastic with a buffet style for cereal, juice, fresh fruit, etc. The Full English was beautifully cooked with as much toast as you could eat. We didn't need any lunches that week and by Thursday had to change to scrambled eggs as we just couldn't eat it all. The decor is a little dated and 'teracotta' but we have stayed in far more expensive hotels and had smaller rooms, meals and manners. We would recommend West park to anyone, the location is fantastic with a wonderful Farm Shop next door for wines and organic food. The library is around the corner if you need an internet point and it is a five minute walk to the town centre. This little hotel/bistro is going to be great when the new owners have it fully up and running. We wish them well and will visit again if we are up that way.

The West Park's website describes their hotel as a 'Boutique Hotel'. I can tell you that this absolutely NOT a boutique hotel.
The building itself occupies a lovely location in Harrogate, situated within a row of fashionble shops and bars which stand opposite a lovely area of parkland. But don't let this fool you, inside we found one of the most poorly decorated hotels I have
ever seen. It was as if they had employed a group of teenagers to do the decorating, given them some orange, yellow and bronze paint, and then a free reign to do whatever they wanted - it was utterly bizzare in places. The general level of clenliness was average, certainly not what I would expect of a hotel. The shower in our room had no pressure and the water temperature at best was tepid! We pointed this out to reception that evening and they said they would ask someone to look at it. The next morning showed no improvement and we complained on departure. It seemed that they were aware that this was an ongoing problem and yet they continue to put people into rooms that don't have hot running water! We had to ASK for the bill to be reviewed as we felt this to be unacceptable and were offered a pathetic 10% - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED CASH SOMEWHERE ELSE!

A lovely hotel in a lovely location close to the city centre.

The room was lovely though we had booked a suite and I considered the room we got was an executive room as it was large and spacious.

The room and bedroom were very clean.

The only disappointment with the hotel was the lack of internet in the room.

The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We arrived with trepidation having booked the hotel two changes of ownership ago. We booked the whole hotel for a brass band trip to Harrogate and cannot recommend the new owners highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were immaculately clean, the welcome was very warm and the location superb.

We look forward to a return trip and would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a town centre location, its a very short walk to the conference centre, shops and restaurants, good location opposite the stray and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.

If this is the standard that is achieved in three weeks we cannot wait to see it again in a few months time. Its worth a visit just to see the magnificent - new - chandelier that was installed in reception during the weekend.
