Every so often it's nice to get away from it all and take a weekend break. We decided to stay here after surfing various websites. It was very easy to find, provided with good instructions from website. We approached the check in desk where the receptionist glanced up at us and offered no greeting, eventually we were booked in to our 'superior double' room, but we had to ask too many questions at reception rather than being told about the dinner we had booked or how the health club operates.
We were disappointed with the room it was quite small, although nice decor. It was relatively clean with the exception of the air conditioning grate, the window frame and the drinks tray. Nowadays one expects a kingsize bed so the poor quality double bed was very disappointing, the bedding and pillows should have been thrown away a long time ago. For our comfort a bathrobe had been left in the room - 2 would have been better! The bathroom was very clean and a good size although let down by cheap toilet paper and a shower screen that was totally useless, take a look at the back of the door you can see the damage the water has done.
The health club was very good with a good sized pool.
We dined in the Brasserie although the menu was different to the one that was on display in the foyer. Prior to our food arriving we were asked if we would like a slice of bread, which was cut for us however, it was wafer thin and disintegrated when you tried to spread butter on it. The food quality was good and the right amount.
There was nothing to do after dinner so we drove to town for a few drinks.
To sum up it's the little things that make your break enjoyable and Menzies failed to deliver. Generally the staff were very young and had no idea how to talk to their guests. They have a lot to learn from their rivals such as Hilton Hotels. I would not recommend this hotel there are far better options out there.
