“Hard to find...”

Ibis London Gatwick Airport

15 Jun 2008

After a long flight and a late night arrival at Gatwick my partner and I just wanted to settle into our hotel for a comfortable night's sleep. The first obstacle to this was that the hotel was very difficult to locate, it isn't as near to the airport as one might expect and I would therefore recommend all potential guests to ensure that they have sat-nav or very thorough directions. The directions that we had were sent along with the booking confirmation and I found them very confusing.

Upon eventual arrival, we had to pay £5 for car parking (£5 per 24 hours) and had to navigate a very small and twisty car park ramp to a car park with limited space. It may be recommended to book this in advance if possible during peak holiday time.

When inside, the hotel was very clean and the check in staff were very pleasant and polite. It seems however that if one requires more than a bed then it comes with a cost...Airport transfers if one needs a shuttle bus, come at a price. There is a deposit to hire adaptor plugs for example and also even though we had paid some £70 for a room, our breakfast wasn't included - a continental breakfast was an extra £6 each.

The room we occupied was surprisingly spacious, the television was very good and there was a kettle with some tea bags and coffee sachets for drinks. Bathrooms were a 'pod' style with sink, lavatory and shower all in one concealed area in the corner of the room. Clean towels were provided and we had no complaints at all with the overall furnishings or the comfort of the bed, which was welcome after a long flight.

To conclude therefore I would recommend the Ibis on the grounds of cleanliness, pleasantness of staff and comfort of the rooms. On the downside, it is very difficult to locate and appeared a bit pricey to me considering that we weren't even getting breakfast.

You get what you pay for!

The room was a bargain for only £45 on a week day night.

The hotel's reception staff are very friendly.

Parking is an additional £5 per night, if you go out during the evening you need to let reception know so they can code your room key so that it gets spat out at the barrier rather than getting swollowed.

The room is a good size and was spotless. There is a small flat screen T.V and tea and coffee making facilities. You can get more tea / coffee etc from reception if needed.

The bathroom has a large walk in shower and has excellent water pressure. There is no hairdryer in the room, but you can borrow one from reception. They take a copy of your credit card for £20 to make sure that you return the hairdryer on checkout.

There is a shuttle bus that runs to the airport, however we didn't use it.

All in all I would recommend this hotel for a quick overnight stop.

“Does the job”

Ibis London Gatwick Airport

17 May 2008

The Ibis is a budget chain of hotels. They are probably all very similar, and to a similar standard, so you do know what you're getting, once you've tried one, you've tried them all!

The Ibis at Gatwick is quite a distance from the hotel, but it's much cheaper than the nearest hotels. They do provide a courtesy bus from the airport - get the hotel phone number, ring them and they'll pick you up for free. However, they do charge to take you to the airport. But the man on the desk said it would be cheaper to order a taxi for the five of us, and he ordered one for the next morning. We thought the honesty refreshing!

We had an evening meal which was very good and not too expensive - though the public area, the bar/lounge/restaurant is very small, not many comfy sofas. We didn't do breakfast because we thought we'd get some at the airport. Pity we spent so long in the queue at the airport that we had to bolt down pastries and coffee! I wish we'd eaten at the hotel as it sounded good value and looked nice & fresh.

You wouldn't want to spend a holiday here, but for a relaxing start to an overseas trip you can't fault it.

“Excellent value”

This is a great little hotel to spend time before a long flight. The rooms are spotless and the shower excellent. Was able to watch a tennis match on eurosport on the bedroom tv before we travelled and the food was quite good - after all it is just a budget airport hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. Would certainly recommend this hotel and stay here again

I stayed at the Ibis Gatwick on a Tuesday night before we flew to Cyprus. The hotel is not far from the airport with the shuttle bus. The rooms were very clean, and the staff was very friendly. I would recommend it for a quick stayover before an early flight. I had booked on the website ibishotel.com at £10 off.
