“Good B&B, not a hotel”

Derby, United Kingdom

Detling Coach House is outside the village of Detling on the other side of the A249, follow the directions on their website for easy access. The accommodation has been converted in 2006 and work was under way in the garden to create an ornamental pool. The welcome was good, everything was clean and in order. The room had a king size bed 6 feet by 6, but limited space around it as pictured on the website. There is an electric shower which we had difficulties using, not being familiar with the controls.

Breakfast was satisfactory in line with the price.

This is a good B&B but not a hotel and the Tourist Board classification is B&B. I chose it because it was listed as the second best hotel in Kent, voted by Trip Advisor members, at the time we booked. I think it would merit that rating among the Bed & Breakfast listing, but as it is listed as a hotel I am scoring it as a hotel.

This is the type of accommodation that you will return to time after time as it feels like a home away from home and the host and hostess greet and treat you like guests - not transient travellers. The old Coach House is set in lovely grounds and has been modernised to a very high standard in keeping with the age of the property; the rooms are very comfortable and furnished individually with all the usual amenities you'd expect to find these days. A good Continental breakfast buffet awaits or, for a small charge your hostess will cook to order. We were delighted to return again and have booked our third visit in 12 months. Need we say more !

We needed an overnight stay whilst Christmas shopping, looked on trip advisor and found this gem. It was a last minute booking, so was not sure when we found there was a vacancy but what a find! Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, even down to a very welcoming tea and coffee as we walked through the door. From directions down to breakfast everything was spot on.

“Best B & B in Kent”

Detling Coachhouse

My friend and I stayed n the Detling Coach House B & B in September 2006. The hospitality and friendliness displayed by our hosts was exceptional. What had started out to be a vacation disaster (left my drivers license at home in the states) turned into one of the best vacations ever. Emma and her family not only operate a really first rate B & B, but they helped us figure out how to get around without the rental car. The room was great, the location was great, the breakfasts were great and most importantly the people were great. We are already planning a return visit.
