I had pre-booked my Ibis hotel in the UK before leaving the USA.
I had reckoned to drive north from Heathrow via Glasgow to Scotland. I wouldn’t normally advocate that but I was arriving before mid-day on a Friday and knew I would be well clear of London before rush hour – in fact well before I could have boarded my flight to Aberdeen. Last minute domestic flights in the UK tend to be almost as expensive as a transatlantic crossing and so if you are going to need a car and your schedule permits the time, you might as well do it out of London.
By my reckoning I could make it to Ibis Fulwood, north Preston by around 4pm – and if the M6 hadn’t been so congested I might have done that. As it was I arrived around 6pm.
The hotel is very well located just where the M6 and the motorway to Blackpool intersect. The room was large by Ibis standards and very comfortable.
I doubt the hotel was very busy and as the weather was appallingly rainy I was just happy to get in there.
There was a large pub about 50 yards away across the large car park - but none of the staff seemed much interested to take an order so I returned to obtain food in the Ibis – good, served quickly and at a reasonable price.
They also do a range of beers on draught and they ought to do a little more to encourage those sales
Similarly the breakfast was well presented and very adequate.
Staff was (as usual in Britain these days) Polish and pleasant.
I recommend Ibis Preston North
It is seconds from the M6 and very convenient for north/ south travelers.
It compares very favourably against the much more basic Travelodges at a similar price.
