I hadn't expected that the Regent Hotel would be so different from other Travelodges that I've stayed at. In its heyday, it must have been terrific and, judging by the collection of photographs of "the Good and the Great" lining the walls to the Grand Staircase, I'm sure this is so. One of the panels in the huge stained glass windows lighting the staircase, shows the Regent as it was in 1820 - and little of the exterior has changed. The decoration of the Lift is a real surprise!
Our bedroom was very roomy (Room 211) with a high ceiling which helped cool the room on a very hot evening. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom clean, with a large bath. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly.
Parking is a bit of a problem but on-street parking is available within a 90 second walk (free from 6.00pm to 8.00am) but there is a multi-storey car park (St. Peter's - locked at Midnight) in a parallel road, just 6 minutes walk away. Breakfast is only from a pack-up box, but opposite the hotel is a café which includes a breakfast menu.More
