I'd taken my mother, who had been recently widowed, for a weekend
break around york & Lincoln. We stayed at the Moat House Doncaster overnight. The rooms were pleasant enough & clean on arrival. We had opted to pay to dine in the hotel that evening at 7.30pm. At 8.20pm, we were still waiting for our soup starter. When a couple on the next table, who had arrived even earlier than us complained, the restaurant duty manager said aggressively "you don't have to eat here". She continued to insult the couple & their party who promptly left, following a slanging match. At 9.40pm, most people had yet to see their main course! What a charming attitude they had considering the fact everyone had paid for the meal.
Many people had arranged activities after dinner, but this arrived so late it was impossible to continue their plans. The receptionist announced to the dining room that everyone should forget what had happened & have a free glass of wine. For many the weekend was ruined. The hotel manager did not even have the decency to apologise to guests who had complained & were leaving the next day. If you want to be treated badly & have to pay for it, stay at the Moat house Doncaster!
