Stayed here for one night as we needed somewhere close to Doncaster airport for an early am flight. What a mistake. We tried three beds before we found one that was tolerable.(The beds are like compressed cardboard)Had we not paid cash before seeing the room...we would have not stayed.

So much for a refurb. The decore is very 70`s ,lots of dark imitation wood, small rooms and the smell was horrible.I couldn`t pin it down ...The internet connection didn`t work, the tv made very strange noises that continued until half an hour after we switched it off.
The bathroom was very small and the water from the shower was tepid at best.
This hotel needs a lot more than a cosmetic job !We later saw the Best Western up the road and wished we had stayed there!

“Didn't live up to the hype”

The Crown bills itself as
'Anywhere else is just a hotel'

If it didn't sell itself so highly I may not have been so disappointed.

The restaurant I have eaten in several times and is excellent. I so wish I could say the same for the hotel.

I was given a room in the new wing which was still being built. An unpleasant smell permeated the floor. Although I reported this three times nothing was done. When I wrote to the hotel after I had left listing my concerns I was told this had now been fixed.

The toiletries provided are minimal, no shower caps or vanity products. An additional charge is levelled for Internet use and there is no Sky or similar in the rooms.

The rooms themselves were the dimensions of a standard Travel Inn/Travelodge although the furnishings were all high spec.

At the end of the day I couldn't work out what the hotel provided which was in line with its advertising slogan although all the staff were very pleasant and the restaurant remains the best in Bawtry.

WOW!’

I recently visited The Crown Hotel in Bawtry and WOW! What a transformation! I stayed at the hotel many years ago before it had been refurbished, and I cannot believe the difference! The hotel is beautiful, and its style reminds me very much of a malmasion hotel, and fits in very well with Bawtry which is a buzzing, trendy town and a great place to go out. The hotel is right in the middle of Bawtry and so you walk out the door onto the main high street – for all the shops and restaurants.

The staff on reception were really helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. My bags were even taken to my room by a chirpy, chatty Scottish man who made me feel very welcome.

I was meeting up with friends for dinner in the evening so we went out for a few drinks at a local wine bar, then decided to eat at the hotel. I cannot fault it! From the presentation of the food, to the portions and service – I would recommend it to everyone. I had the rack of lamb with handcut chips – yum. Amanda who looked after us in the restaurant explained that all the food is locally purchased, and this is quite evident in the quality.

My bedroom was lovely, with a coffee and cream style and had everything, including a fantastic flat screen TV.

There is still some work going on at the hotel ( they are building an extension of new bedrooms) but I was informed this is coming to end, and that the rooms are going to be worth the wait.

We also saw lots of aircrew and pilots in the hotel which was very exciting! - must be flying from the Airport which is a few miles away.

The Crown is a friendly, buzzing place and I can’t wait to go back – hopefully in one of the new posh bedrooms!

This was one of the most unpleasant hotel stays which I have ever endured. We paid £110 per double room which were effectively in a building site with the builders commencing work at 8am. They were constructing another floor immediately above both doubles so the noise was very loud. One of the rooms, although for non-smokers, stank of old fag butts. The walls and doors were so thin that one was awoken by other guests closing their doors. Neither shower worked and produced only cold water. Neither radiators had been switched on so one of us awoke at 4am absolutely freezing whilst the second awoke at 6am absolutely freezing. The mattresses were uncomfortable. The lighting was unsympathetic. The bathrooms were small and as mentioned before the showers don't work.
On the plus side the bar and restaurant had friendly staff and the food was not bad.
It is however unforgiveable of management to charge a full fare for rooms which are in a building site.
