“Dissapointing at best”

The Crown Hotel

The initial impression was dismal. Parking was difficult; it took 20 minutes to find somewhere as the hotel carpark & nearby spaces were occupied.
Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a very buisy reasturant packed with people. Smokers lined the enterence way to the reception, which was not plesant.
We were reasurringly greeted by a very plesant receptionist and bell-boy. After being shown to our room I was instantly dissapointed. We were situated on the ground floor & the view from our room was that of a red car facing inwards towards us. Beyond that was the bustling reasturant and people drinking & smoking outside. A thin net was the only thing protecting our privicy, so the curtains were immediatly shut. And although it was a hot day and the room was scorching the windows remained closed for the same reason.
Followingly we explored the room to find a rather poxy bathroom. The bath had a black chip the size of a 50p coin in the white enamle, and when sitting on the toilet you were wedged in by the sink.
There was no main light so having to close the curtains posed problems as we had dimmed lighting throughout the afternooon & evening.
The TV only had the basic 5 terrestrial channels so we reluctantly purchased the £19.99 TV, Music & Internet package. The choice wasn't great.
Additionally, the phone didn't work.

However dissapointing the room was, the breakfast was plesant. The hotel offers a vegeterian english breakfast which was most ejoyable.
Futhermore, the staff were very friendly & inviting.

“Fantastic !”

I stayed at The Crown back in October 2007 for a birthday present from my other half. I was sceptical about the crown at first due to its location and initial impression from the outside, even though it looked fab on the website.

We'd booked an Executive room, arrived early evening to be directed to our room by the lovely receptionist. As soon as we entered the room, amazing. Cannot fault the design and efforts put into a room such as this. LCD flatscreen tv, wet room, complimentary food hamper, wine already in the room!

The room has mood lighting too which saves you blinding yourself with the ceiling lights(!)

The room was a DBB package, with no restriction on the a la carte menu! We only paid for drinks, not the food. The service, food presentation as well as its taste were all fantastic and second to none.

Being a Conference & Banqueting Manager at a 4 star hotel myself you expect alot when you stay elsewhere. I must say I hadn't a clue what to expect from the crown but they certainly wowed myself and my partner!

Already have my valentines stay booked!

The one thing that stood out about the Crown Hotel in Bawtry during my recent stay was the consistent level of customer service.

From checking in, the qualiity of service remained at a high level with each member of staff encountered during my stay at the hotel.

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and the quallty of food was superb.

Stayed here for one night as we needed somewhere close to Doncaster airport for an early am flight. What a mistake. We tried three beds before we found one that was tolerable.(The beds are like compressed cardboard)Had we not paid cash before seeing the room...we would have not stayed.

So much for a refurb. The decore is very 70`s ,lots of dark imitation wood, small rooms and the smell was horrible.I couldn`t pin it down ...The internet connection didn`t work, the tv made very strange noises that continued until half an hour after we switched it off.
The bathroom was very small and the water from the shower was tepid at best.
This hotel needs a lot more than a cosmetic job !We later saw the Best Western up the road and wished we had stayed there!
